Maybe one of you guys knows the answer to this. The napa gold I know are wix but who makes the ProSelect line? Napas website says they are wix but the kids at the store said they are not It wouldn't be the first time I've seen sites mislabel parts or the kids just wanted to upsell the filters? Any ideas?
As a disclaimer, most of the 'people' that work behind the counter at Napa, Advance and AutoZone, have not the first, faint, foggiest clue about any of the parts they sell.

That's why I suggested in a very old thread about Akebono calipers, to buy the Cardone ones from any of the above stores, and return the base calipers in the box. They will never know the difference.

If I was to hazard a guess, if the Gold line at Napa are Wix, the ProSelect are probably the higher end Wix.

Most people dont care either. It is a retail job. I only ever had 1 or 2 guys working for me at a time that ever cared to learn about what we sold. Find out who those guys are and itll make your experience there much more enjoyable.

I had customers switch stores when i took over a new store- even though the old store was right next to their house. i miss it sometimes - parts was a fun job.

I worked at Advance as a part time gig. I knew more about how to run that store than the GM.

I left when he decided that I needed to work 40 hours for him as a part-time guy.

Oh i believe it. I was the only one in the store with an ASE cert. And then when i took over as GM my boss would push me to schedule the part timers as much as the full timers to prevent OT. It was a constant struggle and was miserable.
I liked selling parts - i didn't like managing minimum wage employees.

It's freaking Monday. Cranked the truck up this morning and proceeded to shred the Serpentine belt. Tensioner is done and the belt rode a couple of bands over the pullies. Oh what fun. Took a day off and rounded up the parts. Now to get dirty.

The GM I worked for was lazy, he is supposed to be at the store 50 to 60 hours a week, rotate the shifts he works (open, mid, close) and rotate days off. He was never there on the weekends, was gone by 4 daily, didn't know how to do ANY of the inventory functions and didn't even do the schedule.

I wound up working all day on the weekends, and from 5pm to close (9 pm) during the week, after working 50 hours at my day job. He couldn't understand why I got so upset about the schedule.

Yep i was salaried for 50 hrs a week and worked AT LEAST that every week. Usually 60+. I did the schedule as no one else could figure it out - and i was the only one that did inventory.

I didn't close the store or work sundays but thats because i had part timers that could only work those shifts. That and i couldn't get anything done at night. When you get called up front for every single customer it makes it hard to do backroom jobs like inventory and planograms. I very much do not miss doing those either.

Its hard to staff a store when you've interviewed everyone in the system across multiple stores. I interviewed so many dumb dumbs you wouldn't believe it.

A good friend of mine worked in a few auto parts stores over the years. When he started, most of the counter people were very knowledgeable and could usually help you identify parts. Nowadays, many of them have trouble looking up a part number. But definitely not all of them - there are still quite a few car people behind the counter, you just have to look to find them sometimes. The local O'Reillys (closest place to my house) has a few that I will wait to have help me.
Sometimes the customers are just as bad. My friend has a lot of horror stories.

Same thing happened at Radio Shack - only worse. Back in The Good Ole Days, the person behind the counter was usually an electronics buff working mainly for the employee discount. They knew their s**t. Eventually ended up with a bunch of folks who knew nothing about what they were selling.
