My first '78 TransAm was a WS6 240hp auto, with the Hurst T tops. All black with the bird on the hood. No pin stripes. This car was a major chick magnet.

My second '78 TranAm was a WS6 240hp with a stick. No T tops. Red with a black interior. It was one of the first ones with the 4 wheel disc brakes. Went through 4 motors, 3 trannies, and 2 rear ends. The last motor in it was a cheby LS7 crate motor.

Next time for rear brakes. I'll need new rotors, and all the hardware.


Watch out for your rear calipers sticking and brakes smoking. Common Dodge issue. I just bought new calipers when I did mine along with new rotors. Rear Brakes, 130k miles before any brake work. The fronts went to 155k. New Rotors, Pads, and calipers. All good. I tow too heavy to even consider turning the rotors. Need all the heat sink I can get.

The pistons are good. Had the sliders sticking. My pads are EBC YellowStuff, and the rotors are EBC sport rotors. Well.......my truck sees mud and water at times.

You got an LS7 or a BBC 427 ?

Had the '70's, Big Block 454 LS7 Rated HP was 465HP. It was more likely over 500HP. Big block Pontiac motors don't like to rev over 5,000 rpm's very long. So I switched to the big block cheby. Local dealer had ordered the motor for a guy. And the guy died before he could pick it up. So I got a deal on it because the dealer couldn't send it back and it was sitting collecting dust.

My T/A had the Pontiac 6.6 ( not the Oldsmobile ) rated at a pitiful 190hp. It was a lot of fun over 100mph the ground effects and spoiler sucked that baby to the ground and it felt incredibly stable ! Should have kept that one.

Yep. The trannies was 2, BW Super T10's, and one Rock Crusher. One 10 bolt and one 12 bolt rear end.

Both of my TA's had the 6.6 Pontiac 240HP motors. The way to tell a 6.6 200 HP Pontiac motor from a 6.6 240 HP Pontiac motor was the valve covers. The 240 had chrome valve covers and the 200 had painted covers.

The Olds 6.6 (403) didn't come until '79. '80 had the 301 turbo or the 307 Olds.

My first car that I purchased in summer of 82’ was a 73’ Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme w/Rocket 455 engine,Turbo 400 trans & 2.73:1 limited slip diff.
The engine was only rated ar 250hp, but was very torky...it was a medium blue w/white interior & bucket seats with center console & shifter.
Tilt steering w/cushion grip sport wheel...2door hardtop (vinyl). 14” wheels w/stainless trim rings & something like G78x14 tires.
At 16yrs of age,,,my HotRodding day’s had began. 4,000 rpm shift points by the tachometer mounted on top of steering column w/hose clamp.
I learned how to tune a quadrajet carb well & adjust the points and timing.
This was not a very big car & we used to cut class & go d***-r*** at the nearby designated spot in the country...it jumped out the hole like a frog & kept pulling
I paid 1k for it & had title in hand,,,ugh the good old days
