Uhhh, you wanna spend $500 on a phone? Contract not up, or you just don't want a contract?

I guess I'd get a N1 if I had that kind of cash to throw around...

m4a1mustang 03-10-2010 06:07 AM

None of these phones are worth 500 bucks, IMO.

Yeah, thats a better way to put it if you ask me.

Unless you've got really deep pockets.

Have had my phone for a bit now, looking for some good application recommendations for whatever you do, games, business, leisure, etc.

Has anyone seen the feature under contacts: "Chat using <client>"
Selecting it does nothing, downloaded a few messenger programs and they do nothing, is this a new feature that has not been taken advantage of yet?

MC 03-10-2010 06:17 PM

yeah im not sure about that is it connected to the google talk chat app thats on the phone? i was wanting to use it but i wasnt sure how to add friends.. i assume they need to have gmail? i also downloaded a yahoo im app but its not connected to my contacts

Yeah I tried downloading direct apps, AIM/Yahoo/etc. and none worked.
I only have a few people on Gtalk and have not used the Talk program so maybe that is what it is for?
Overall I am really liking Android and still working on getting my life on it, more.

Have you guys used Pdnet to tether the droid to a laptop?
I did a demo and got speeds of 1.8 mbps which is not bad, I had this software when I was on a palm treo some years back.

MightyBobo 03-10-2010 07:54 PM

Have had no need to, Trip. But, maybe in the future...

theDreamer 03-10-2010 07:56 PM

I downloaded, but rarely need to tether my laptop.
Usually only on trips, but will keep it on the phone for when the time is ready and report back. :D

Trips 03-10-2010 08:14 PM

Yea I'm sometimes stuck on the job on a New phone installation, and sometimes theres no network connections or while on lunch in a parking lot, this comes in handy, and the best thing is you only pay for it once.

Newp - you can buy it unlocked....

But, if you want a verizon droid without getting the N1...here's the Incredible. Looks pretty bitchin' to me...

MC 03-16-2010 03:03 PM

thanks! great background!

i haz the MotoDroid too

i texted my friend that has the Nexus One about that issue MC, i'll see what he says when he replies. i haven't had any issues being able to read mine but i can understand how some would want to see the text a little larger or at least have the option

oh and not to sound too cliche'd, there may be an app for that lol

yeah i mean i dont have a problem with it i think the font is large enough,,, im not saying my moms old or anything its just she went from a flip phone to this and she isnt adjusting so well :icon17: she gets so many emails for her job she needs something she feels comfortable using

HKYStormFront 03-16-2010 04:42 PM

haha yea i wasn't gonna say she's getting old but when you posted that i started to wonder if my dear ol' dad is having problems with it as well, he just got a Droid about a month ago. he came from a BB tour though (and an HTC Diamond before that) so at least he was somewhat familiar with the idea of a smartphone. if my mom, on the other hand, got a Droid........ her head would explode lolz

HKYStormFront 03-16-2010 07:53 PM

matt, 2.1 does NOT support double tap zooming in the gmail (or email app), apparently that's only in the browser. i am basing this info off a Nexus One which runs Android 2.1, though if/when it does come out on all droid phones it may have the feature. i can't believe they've overlooked this honestly, or at the least given some options in the settings while you are in your inbox to change text size.

Sorry for the late question, just saw this thread. Is there any way to transfer the phonebook on the droid to the 370z nav system? I cant find anywhere to transfer contacts. I downloaded a bluetooth transfer app but it failed.

On a lighter note, the droid is awesome so far. Also, HKY, if you want more homescreens download the free app "helixlauncher". It is really lightweight and gets the job done.

You cant yet cause when you pair the phone and tell the nav to download the addressbook it say to enter 1234 passkey but the droid never asks this confirmation and so you cant get the address book synced. Thats anoying you have to enter your contacts manually with a max of 10 users i think. hope they get this fixed.

no info on your second question

theDreamer 03-17-2010 11:09 AM

A cool feature I just found:
Settings -> About phone -> Battery use
It has a break down of your battery usage since last unplugged.

nuTinmuch 03-17-2010 11:46 AM

Oh man, give me my update!

Can't waiiit.

HKYStormFront 03-17-2010 12:32 PM

some of my favorite apps right now:

LookOut (security and antivirus)
TasKiller (force closes any open programs, can help speed up the phone)
Live Scores (until ESPN has a good stats app, this one works fine)
Weatherbug
Pandora

Lug 03-17-2010 03:02 PM

Some freebies...
Voice Recorder
Shazam (iD's songs by "sampling" them, impressive)
Key Ring (you can scan all your store cards, etc into your phone and display them there instead of keeping them on your keyring)
EasyTether (backup internet access for your laptop)
Gstrings (guitar/bass tuner)
RadarNow (local radar by GPS location)
Ringdroid (lets you convert your own mp3's into custom ringtones)
Speedtest (test your 3 and wifi speeds)
Unit Converter
ConnectBot (ssh program to connect remotely)
Spirit Level (it's a level)

HKYStormFront 03-17-2010 06:15 PM

yea i forgot about spirit level. i use that one all the time in the warehouse when i don't have a real level with me and need to check a crane. works really well

m4a1mustang 03-17-2010 06:17 PM

Horray for update!
