I enjoy the Arnold, Duke Nukem, and Old Man Herbert (or whoever the dude from Family guy is...) ones. Plenty of memorable sayings...

Android 2.1 looking fast, furious on Motorola Droid -- Engadget

Saw that video, looks really good.
What is the animated dock thing he was talking about which is not in his build he is using?

Ohhh, something the Nexus One has that I wish we had...instead of the little grey button/slider that we have to pull out the app tray, you have what looks like 9 dots in a square shape that when clicked brings up a cool, "rolodex" kinda thing that has all your apps on it. Its hard to explain, but its a lot cooler than the sliding app tray. Oh well, though - 2.1 in itself will be awesome.

Liquid_G 03-05-2010 01:16 PM

I found something today that I found very odd my Droid can't do..
The guys at work set up a little wireless router in the office, because their Iphones get shitty 3g coverage haha..

But the wireless router connects to the office network, and the office network uses an http proxy to get out to the internet.. suprisingly no where on the Droid can you set up to use an http proxy.. anyone come across this or find a way around it?

MightyBobo 03-05-2010 02:01 PM

Thats a good point Liquid - seems all you can do is set up a static IP, gateway/netmask, and DNS server...interesting. Then again, I never have to use a proxy /shrug

If you're on Verizon, I wouldnt say so...

Otherwise, its an unlocked phone that can go to any carrier really...so, if thats worth it to you, not being bound to a carrier at all...then sure :)

The type of network AT&T is. Theres some stuff the N1 cant do on AT&T's network because of it. Not as fast as it should be...

Bobo is right, the original Nexus one is meant for T-mobile but it is an "open" phone. If you want an Android phone on AT&T just wait a couple more months you will get your first batch. I believe the Nexus one is on the list, so the Dell Mini, and one more by HTC.

I think the most recent android phone that came out on AT&T is the Backflip. I'm not sure how it's fairing but I'm a DROID owner all the way. My first smartphone and probably one of the most fruitful reward from any of my researched purchases.

I've heard Nexus One getting a bad wrap from being under T-Mobile due to lack of coverage and service. It's debuting at the end of this month with Verizon so hopefully as Google's (Android) flagship phone, it will get a better review.

At least where I live in the panhandle of Florida, Verizon Wireless reigns supreme, hands-down.

If not mentioned already, I think phonearena.com is a great cell phone reference website.

MightyBobo 03-06-2010 11:40 AM

The Backflip isnt on par with the DROID, particularly hardware wise.

The Nexus One is a solid machine hardware-wise - in fact I think it even beats the droid. Its downside is the lack of keyboard, odd trackball (instead of an optical pad), and a less-than-stunning exterior. Its not exactly one of those GOTTA HAVE IT devices, is all. The Droid, however, was exactly that for many.

Master_Ly - I felt the same. While not my FIRST smartphone (I had a Curve 8330), it was definitely one that I researched a lot before purchasing, and have been EXTREMELY happy with since I got it.

370zproject 03-07-2010 12:43 AM

ok so what is coming out that is better the the nexus 1?

For what carrier? No better Android phones than the Moto Droid, or the Nexus One really...

m4a1mustang 03-07-2010 07:43 AM

I just ordered some Pro Clip mounts for my car... Going to pick up the motorola docking station too.

schrute 03-07-2010 07:22 PM

^The Droid docking station is my favorite cell phone accessory in a long time. I have one at work and one at home.

That's very common about what you said on the hard keyboard which is very surprising to me. Most people told me that prefer something "tangible." I do wish the Droid has the better processor like the Nexus One (Snapdragon) but I heard in the rumor mull that eventually the Droid will get overclocked to 800, probably during the over-the-air update to 2.1 Android. I really hope so!

Thanks for your thoughts on the Nexus One. I've heard many good things about the Curve and all of the praises that come with the BB trackballs. I almost jumped on the Storm2 but that entire screen clicking (SurePress, I think), that was just too funky. I'm glad that the Droid worked out for you especially coming from such a well established smartphone like the curve.

I have the OE Droid blue shell and I really wish it would fit the docking station (so I heard). So now I had to bootleg it and got the Dockrunner app instead.

Yeah, if the Droid had the Snapdragon I'd be in nirvana I think. Im not surprised that the 2.1 update may clock it to 800 (btw, its not quite overclocking - the proc is rated at 800 in normal form. Its actually UNDERCLOCKED in the phone, go figure). Everything points to a much snappier OS after 2.1 :)

And yes, the screen clicking thing in the Storm is SurePress. Although, I hear it got significantly better in the Storm2 over the Storm.

MC 03-08-2010 02:50 PM

i had a problem yesterday with the youtube.. it kept saying sorry this video cannot be played.... it did it on every video.... i finally deleted the cache then turned the phone off then back on and it worked.... anyone had this?

Yes, you're right; thanks. Droid was de-tuned from the factory. Now it needs to be unleashed. I've heard for those that did put 2.1 on the Droid, it works fantastic and so much better (plus Flash).

m4a1mustang 03-08-2010 06:50 PM

If I like the docking station I'll probably order another for my office as well. Would be nice to have since I don't get good battery life out of this thing.

If you are referring to the Droid, then no. The YT app had been working flawlessly for me. There might be limitations between the app and the browser experience but I wouldn't know what that would be.

HTC Desire or HTC Legend, both out here in the UK end of this month

m4a1mustang 03-09-2010 10:47 AM

Fedex just delivered. It's pretty nice -- weighted nicely with soft rubber pads that will prevent it from sliding around the desk.

Well worth it. I'll probably order another one for my office.

You can buy a Milestone (Droid in Europe) and it can run on GSM network. One of the guys I work with just did that.

Hopefully. If so, it will be Adobe Flash 10.1. But I'm not sure if it will be with Android 2.1 or as a standalone release.

so if i was gonna spend 500 on a phone what phone?
