Well the HD2 is nice, but is still on WinMo which after playing with is still subpar to other phone OS choices.

370zproject 04-01-2010 02:37 PM

what is the nexus running i forgot?

theDreamer 04-01-2010 02:39 PM

Android 2.1

G Fo12ce 04-01-2010 03:12 PM

I didn't read through all the pages but I've been looking into a phone upgrade. I came accross 2 phones coming out soon that use Android 2.1. The HTC EVO4 (who makes the google phone) and the Samsung Galaxy S (which uses an LED screen like thier new TV's). Both look pretty sweet and possible Iphone competitors.

I'd get the Evo4 in a heartbeat if I had sprint, and I had WiMAX in my area (which I do).

theDreamer 04-01-2010 07:21 PM

The EVO4 is basically the HD2 but running Android 2.1 (the way I think it should be). The Samsung phone I have yet to see outside of conventions so no official specs yet.

MC 04-01-2010 09:26 PM

has anyone gotten the 2.1 over the air yet? i saw the link for the forced update but just wondered if the OTA roll out has started

Trips 04-01-2010 09:43 PM

Ya I have AT&T currently. I'm pretty late in the game getting internet on my phone, don't have it at the moment but I'm finding lots of times where I wish I did. About 2 years ago I was going to bump up my plan and get an iPhone (me and my wife) until I was completely turned off by AT&T BS plans. For example if your work place does business with them a lot of times you can apply a code to your account to get a discount on your bill (15-20% or whatever). We have it. Once an I phones becomes the primary phone on an account all that kind of stuff goes out the window and you have to use all thier hiked plans for that phone. Now that I hear Verison is getting the iPhone I want to see what kind of comepetiton happens and see if they get new/good Driod based phones on AT&T. If they don't I may switch networks.

Also I read that HTC EVO4 is 4G capable and its supposed to be insane fast for internet use. I think they said Sprint is upgrading some major markets.

Your discount was removed due to AT&T's agreement with Apple and the iPhone. Had you chosen another smartphone you could have kept your discount.

I didn't get the iPhone because of all that BS. I got a Blackberry instead and now am eligible for an upgrage. Basically I'm waiting a bit to see if AT&T will get the good Droid phones (that compete with the Apple) and change plans when Verison gets thier iPhone.

WiMAX IS 4G lol.

Furthermore, not all 4G is the same...Verizon's is called LTE...

i've enjoyed having 2.1 but my dad has been having some major issues with his phone. it may or may not be related to the 2.1 update (over the air not forced). yesterday it kept going to some kind of screen that looked like a diag screen. i followed the steps to force the 2.1 update but instead of resinstalling it, i just reset it that way and it's worked fine since. anyone else had this issue? i think it might have been one of his apps causeing the issue, not specifically the 2.1 update

MightyBobo 04-05-2010 05:39 PM

Nope, no issues with 2.1 here. I did the do-it-yourself method, btw.

m4a1mustang 04-05-2010 06:01 PM

Battery usage really seems to have improved with the update.

Seconding this. I've had to charge my phone nightly since I got it, forgot to charge it last night and it still isn't in the red yet.

m4a1mustang 04-05-2010 06:35 PM

I used to go in to work with a full charge and leave in the afternoon with maybe 1/4 life left. Left today with 3/4 life... nice!

HKYStormFront 04-05-2010 06:49 PM

yea i've noticed that as well

This can be troubleshooted by booting into safemode.

Droid Safemode

Can anyone tell me how to get a live wall paper on my phone. I need instructions for dummies. Thanks

HKYStormFront 04-06-2010 05:06 PM

tommy, go to a blank space on your desktop and hold down a finger on it till a menu pops up, at the bottom it says "wallpapers", click that then click "live wallpapers" then choose the one you want.

Wow that was easy thanks bro, I was reading all these different post on other forums and I was totally lost. You can't believe what they were saying that you needed to do.
Thanks again,
Tom

Rofl, that is one back-assward way of doing it...

Just click the settings button (second from the left...) at any of your desktops. A pop-up will come, with a wallpaper option.

HKYStormFront 04-06-2010 09:04 PM

6 of one, half dozen of the other :P

robtrink 04-07-2010 07:20 AM

If all of you have not tried it yet, I recommend downloading "handscent SMS".

The benefits of this become immediately noticeable upon first use. You can set the notification light to be about 6 different colors. In addition, you can set a standard color for all your contacts and a specific color for a certain person. (For example, a text from my family comes with a blue notification, friends are green, and co-workers are orange). Besides the notification lights, you can also download all attachments from all text messages with a click of the button. It never Force Closes on me and is one of the best additions to the phone so far.

Zaggeron 04-07-2010 07:35 AM

Just picked up the Motorola Droid last night. I'm coming from an old non-smart phone so I'm still overwhelmed by all you can do.

Just take your time. I used a Blackberry for months beforehand, so it was a bit easier for me. My Ex-gf only had dumb phones, and it took her some time...but she loves it now.
