^Thanks for the links.
I've had the Driod Eris for a couple weeks but I'm thinking about switching it out for the Droid. I like the form factor of the Eris better and it's a very cool phone but Android 2.0 is looking better and better to me and the Droid has some cool accessories (desktop charging dock with some cool features and the car mount for navigation). Decisions, Decisions. |
Ive had my Motorola Droid since release date, and I couldn't be happier. I came from a Curve, and was PLANNING on getting one of the new Tours with WiFi (when it came out), but after looking into the Droid some more, I was sold.
Great phone...all the "big" apps that are actually worth a damn on iPhone more than likely will make it to the Droid OS anyway, and I'm not THAT big on apps anyway. Who's going to get 100K apps anyway? You'll get the 20-30 you use quite a bit, and the others are just the ones where you're like, "OH MY GOD, CHECK OUT MY SICK USELESS LIGHTSABER APP!". |

that doesn't mean you have to use the email account. |
ive had my droid since monday...
ive never had an iphone, however i have looked at my friends and messed with it for a bit just to see how it was... when i was checking out my buds iphone before i got my droid i thought the iphone was pretty neat, and could do all the things i wanted it too... then i got my droid monday and have been pretty much blown away by what this phone is capable of doing... it is truely an all in one device for me... others here say that the flip out qwerty keyboard is not to their liking, i actually enjoy having the convenience of useing it and still having the virtual keyboard as well... my overall impression is very positive and they are adding more apps everyday... heres a few pics... my droid was 149 bucks and the intensity was free, i got it for the ole lady  http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_0546.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_0547.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_0548.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_0549.jpg |

Couple more cool apps: Dolphin Browser (pinch zoom), Locale (geofencing - never have your ringer go off in a meeting again), Pandora, Nesoid Lite (Nintendo emulator, for some old school gaming fun) and tv.com (free tv). Love my Droid :)
|
Haven't met a single person yet who got one and doesn't like it.
|
How is it in terms of moblility? I was looking at it, and it seemed a tad on the big side. And what about general sound volume? My first gen iPhone is the quietist phone of all time, even speaker phone is hard to hear.
|
Its a little bit longer than the curve but its narrower and slimmer so it maintains similar portability. Volume is good. Great phone... I'm impressed. It does everything I need it to do and there's a ton of stuff in the android marketplace.

I'm letting you all know I'm still having fun with the Droid!
Have any of you all used the speedtest app? 2.2 mbps download and 1.2 upload here! that is extremely good! |
Had the Droid for a couple of weeks....just love it.
|
Same here... for the Droid users... what are some apps you all are using and would say are must haves?
|
Padora a must! for music!
|
So far I have downloaded Google Finance, Weather Channel, Shop Savvy, aDyno, Astrid task manager, DroidLight, Google Sky, Open Table, TasKiller, and Hi AIM.
Hi AIM seems pretty buggy so I don't know if I'll keep that one much longer. I am on the lookout for cool apps that I may or may not find useful. |
meebo app is a must if you message around... google googles is bomb... layar... yelp... imeem for music... taskkiller
|
Much as I like the Droid, I won't be completely satisfied until Word Mole gets transferred over to the Android. :(
|
I got the Texts from Last Night app for $1.99 lol. TOTALLY worth it. I love that site...
|
i like the phone.

I have a question regarding VZW's network. Why is it that I have full reception on 3G during idle or just web browsing but I get 0-2 bars without 3G when I'm on a call? This doesn't happen most of the time but does happen time to time such as today. I was on hold with the VA hospital for 30+mins and my call got dropped. Just wanted to skullfuck the government and VBW simultaneously. >:o
Also hate how the phone keep auto dimming itself when I'm on a call. I know it's a feature to prevent pushing the buttons on accident and all but it's almost impossible to not trigger it when I need to make selections. :/ |
The auto-dim is a proximity sensor - if you hold it up to your head, it will dim for you to not waste too much battery power. But yeah, it can be excessive sometimes. I believe the sensor is in the upper right hand corner, so...watch your fingers in that area :).

I currently have an iPhone 3G. This is my 3rd one. :ugh2:
First one, the mic died... Second one, the slide bar would move, but the phone wouldn't unlock. Apples warranty allows me to just take it back, and if they can't fix it, I get a brand new one. Does Verizon do that with the Droid? Also, I unlock/jailbreak my iPhone so I could feasibly use any sim card in it and I can change just about any look of it to suit my tastes. Can the Droid do that? My iPhone has a Map feature that gives me directions on point. So I don't see the google feature being that specifically awesome? I have an app on my iPhone that goes directly to youtube, does the Droid have that? Also, I don't use facebook, so that app is wasted on me. But what I can use is Apps that work with my Instant Messaging services, can I still do that with a Droid? I love a touchscreen keyboard, and the small dimensions of the iPhone. I myself am not partial to a sliding KB, but for those who weren't at first, have you since grown to like it, or hate it? My thing against it is it sliding open when I don't want it to... And also the tiny buttons, being fat fingered when your trying to type. Also, if I remember correctly, Verizon doesnt use sim cards, so the phone is locked to them isnt it? So you can't take it globally, or have they changed that? Lastly, as I said before, I can unlock my iPhone and make it do whatever I want, can you unlock a Droid? Sorry for so many questions, I see the droid, I like the droid... But the iPhone does have some features that make me want to hold onto it. If this 3rd one breaks I'm done with it though. I'll just buy a Droid free lance and if I can unlock it, somehow get it on AT&T's network... if I can? :ugh2: |

Chris, I will say you can do anything the iPhone can, maybe better, on the droid. Just remember it is not Apple's OS, it is Google so things are done differently. The look, feel, execution of many things are different but there, between apps, UI, etc. |
I can't live without the sliding keyboard. Only time I use the touch keyboard is if one of my hands are occupied.
|
Why is being a gsm phone such a plus? I understand the whole traveling bit. But when you go to another country you still have to buy a new sim card (pre-paid) and all your contacts are usually on your US sim-card.
I used to be the biggest fanatic of GSM, until I did the stupidity of getting a 2 year contract with T-mobile which is done this Monday, and not soon enough. I am most definitely switching over to versizon and CDMA. CDMA orks better than GSM but you loose the international ability... But for that just buy another phone just for traveling. |
I've also looked at the Nexus, what about that guys? Any words on it...
What is it with the Android thats coming to ATT? |
Quote:
Eventually, a unified standard will come out (I think thats HSPA?) and that should be going to ALL carriers... |
Quote:
GSM v. CDMA is mostly about the world travel factor, but even then 90% of CDMA phones have the ability to work on GSM networks around the world. |

Other than that, its pretty snappy, but it brings nothing new to the table. If you desperately want a phone w/ Android WITHOUT a keyboard and you're on Verizon, then its the way to go. Otherwise, Droid wins. Furthermore, the unlocked one I believe has both radios, for CDMA and GSM access. Personally, I think its fairly boring and nothing too special. But, its also their first offering - we'll see how it goes for the next one :) Oh yeah, here's the AT&T going Android thing: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/a...otorola-on-bo/ |
Quote:
LTE will be better for all of us - phones will all use the same radios (and, hence, be able to roam to different carriers easily), and production should be somewhat cheaper since they'll all be using the same ****. Not that we'll notice it Im sure :) |
