Default Greetings, Utah Owner broken down in Savannah, GA

I wish I could say I am a new owner, but I bought a 2010 Sport Touring Roadster 6sp back in February and have been waiting 4 and a half months to get approved to post on the forums.

I could have certainly used some advice from the knowledgeable folks on this forum, while getting the vehicle ready to travel. The best of which would have been not to buy such a flawed, unreliable, poorly designed POS car for such a trip.

$15k for a 2010 Sport/Touring Roadster with 28k miles in excellent condition seemed like such a great deal at the time What a seemingly great car with great performance and Japanese reliability to take on a 4 month post-Covid trip around the perimeter of the US? But little did I know, I would have been better off looking at Yugos. Thousands in upgrades and repairs is hopes of making it into decently reliable transport leaves me stuck and broke down in a hot, expensive, sweat trap where no one is willing to work on the car. Even the dealer here refuses to work on this POS.

Sorry for the down trodden tone, maybe after another few thousand dollars I'll be able to come up with something nice to say.

I hope your car gets you through the day w/o a $1000 repair bill.

.

Guessing that you ran into a convertible issue. Sorry to hear that.

Any additional details that you can provide? Maybe the forum can give you some of that advice you're looking for.

That, unfortunately, is not cause of my current chagrin. I figured out that I had the "top-hatch fifth-bow smack" (that plagues EVERYONE) much earlier, shortly after dealing with the realization that she couldn't handle a spirited gallop from the valley up to the ski resorts in 45 F-degree weather without nearly shutting down due to oil cooking. The dozens upon dozens more hours searching, fretting and frustration about the bow-5 design cluster-f*** led me to per chance upon a convertible "top whisperer" in San Diego for whose attention I under took a 14 hour drive and 3 day's hotel stay in an attempt to preemptively stave off that disaster in the offing.

I'll share this wondrous Top Guru's coordinates and digits after I get a little less mad at my obstreperous, she-devil's current recalcitrant antics.

I am currently dealing with "slave disintegration syndrome." The previous owner said he had replaced the clutch with a "competition clutch and billet flywheel" at 15k mi., so I accidentally assumed that I might elude that multi-thousand dollar cluster ****, but as goes it with being owned by this bitch, bend over.

I've somehow learned to live (beaten dog style) with the $1000+ cash hemorrhages this doxie demands, but spending a week in this hellish sweat box, assuming I can find someone willing to work on her, is more than I can bear. The 5 day layover in Memphis was as much as I could tolerate, it's just getting as to where it's not any fun anymore.

You bought someone else's headache. When you buy used. It's a 50/50 shot. On this this one. You ate the bullet.

You need to get ahold of Joe at ZSpeed. He can go you going again with the right clutch parts. The previous owner might have not replaced the old CSC. If he did, it's was with the same oem CSC.

For the oil temps. Where you live at. A 34 row oil cooler should be on order.

Wow. What a mess. Besides the aforementioned fifth bow issue, I've been fortunate: It's been a trouble-free 10k miles for me since my purchase in early-2019. Knock on wood, I guess.

Hope that you get back on the road soon.

It's not like I can use it, if the car won't drive. The clutch was working ok, so to speak, I had to lift the pedal the last 4 inches with my toe. Took it to a mechanic, he tried to bleed it. Now the car won't move at all.

But if you are trying to get me to compliment the car, the HVAC on that money pit is among the best I've had.

The vehicle had been well maintained and garaged. The mistake I made was pretending that driving the thing would be OK. It's designed more to be just looked at.

Joe's out of parts. Thanks. But yeah, I get the routine. Give some 3rd party vendor and mechanic (assuming you can find one who is willing to touch it) thousands of dollars to fix another POS design flaw.

Yup, I already bent over and grabbed my ankles on that one.

The absurdity of that statement becomes apparent when you re-parse it. "A $1000 in aftermarket parts should be purchased and installed if you would like to ready your sports car to be driven up a decent sized hill."

That's good to hear. As someone else mentioned, you should plan on an oil cooler, if you intend to drive it up uphill with any spirit.

How did you sort out your top issues?

Well, I just figured it would come in handy in that "hellish sweat box" you're in since you can't go anywhere. Good luck with the repairs.

I haven't really, other than grabbing the bottom of the top to hold it out of the way of the moving tonneau cover when lowering it. It should be fixed, but I've been lazy, and I kind of expect to be told it's going to cost thousands of dollars to fix anyway since it's out of warranty. If this was my daily, then we would probably not be having this discussion as I would have traded it in for another manual soft top Miata to avoid the hassle.

I've always like the Z-car. That said, I haven't had much other interest in Nissan as a manufacturer. This will likely be the last one I'll invest my money in.

Ok, let me see if I have this straight... You bought someone else’s headache without doing your DD?

You’re angry because it took 6 months to get approved here?

Your 11 year old car has issues that have been fully documented and you had access too here for free and you’re mad at the car?

We’re supposed to feel sorry for you for being a victim?

The entire line of Z’s are POS’s because you didn’t do your homework?

Should I go on, Sweetie?

I think you’ll be much better off on the FakeBook group. You’re welcome.
