Put in a Stillen G3 intake yesterday night...

Took me about 4 hours, but that also includes eating dinner.

The hardest part was putting the front fascia back on. I had it off within 20 minutes (thanks to this thread (DIY: Front Bumper Removal)).

I got the old intake parts out within 30 minutes.

The hardest in terms of potenial "oops factor" was taking a dremel to the air duct holes / core support.

It'd helped if i had the right kind of bit - but, I didn't, and just had to basically melt my way through the plastic (ack!) - but, I got it in. I also now need to polish the tubes as the plastic had some sharp edges and put some light scratches on it. I've polished stainless steel to mirror-levels before, so it won't be a big deal - then again, I could just hit it with some 80 grit and give it that satin look

So, of course, I took it out for a spin. This is the first mod, and I'm surprised, I could tell.

Mostly, it'll spin them tires from a stop sign louder than before all the way through 1st and chip them in 2nd (that's my dyno) - and even kick the rear end a bit more to the right than before...

But the GROWL from under the hood is quite a bit more - more throaty. I also noticed when you open it up the exhaust (remember - stock!) - seems to really rumble too - more than it did before.

Well, next up is an exhaust, but that'll be near x-mas, if not tax-return season...

I installed my G3 last Saturday and it went pretty much like what you described above. I even scratched the driver's side tube a bit too (that's the side I did 1st). What kind of polish are you going to use? I'd like to clean mine up a bit.

I've got some mother's Billet Metal Polish and I need to get a new polishing "wheel" for my drill.

If not, then I'll go get some high-grit metal finishing paper and do it. the problem I get is that I don't have enough patience, and rush it a bit and it ends up looking worse, so, I'll probably think long and hard about doing it - lol...

But, I did get one side of my stainless Springfield 1911 .45 polished up to mirror levels before I got bored with it, and decided to half-*** the other side. I finished it off...a year or so later?

I'm more or less just going to hit the the top and see.

Hey Kann, see if you can get a dyno run somewhere, would be cool to see what you are making.

To be honest, it probably won't happen. I'm a bit flat in the bank department for now, somehow we overspent and soaked our reserves without realizing it, and oddly it wasn't the G3 that did it...

On top of that, I'd have to call around to find out who's got a dyno and what they charge for a run without having them do "something" performance oriented to the car, and how quickly I can get the car back. In this town it's all about who your friends are, for that kind of stuff.

Queue jumpers happen ALL the time for those who know someone who works somewhere with a dyno.

I found this out the hard way with my bike - took them 3 days to "get to" putting a jet kit in my bike, then another 4 days before they could put it on the dyno, even though I was told I'd have it back in 2 days, tops.

I'm happy with it breathing better. Honestly, the intake was supposed to be last on the list, but, I had the money in the account and it went on sale - so, it won out. I was going to get a cat-back + HFC's first...

Whoever your local dyno guys are sound like douche bags...

You should be able to make an appointment, go in, do 3 runs and walk out easily in an hour. People do pulls without making upgrades at the shops all the time. Thats the way its been at every shop I've taken my car to.

so over all you like the stillin intake? I just bought a 370z...signed the papers today but it wont be here until Wed. I might not get it until Thursday cuz they r installing a dual intake system for $500 (not sure what the actual price of intakes r since its duel, they said $1200) But they say its K&N or Stillin. I dont want to wait until thursday to have the car so i was thinking about getting the car and install the intake myself. Can you put a picture of the part u had to grind down/melt?

AFAIK, the K&N "intake" is just an air filter replacement - they don't have their own full-blown intake system...

Stillen has a couple intakes - G2 and G3, G3 being the type that goes in front of the radiator.

Definately a good upgrade, I can hear my exhaust a bit more on accelleration, it has more of a mean growl to it too. But, once I do a full exhaust (short of headers - don't want to pull the engine) - it should be great.

and im guessing G3 is better then G2...any reasons why? I still dont know what type the dealership is giving me...ill find out Wed when i pick the car up. I better not have paid $500 for god damn filters..lol

Yes the G3 is better, Its cold air versus short ram.

The G3 Makes a lot more power than the G2, but is more time consuming to install.

The Stillen kits come with K&N filters. The G3 by it self is around $500. If you are paying $500 for parts and installation I would bet you are getting the G2.
