Default K&N drop in filters

Thinking about picking up a few of these and throwin em in to see what they do. Some people seem to like them some think they do nothing. Are they ready to go out of the box? or do I need to oil them like i've read? or do you just oil them when you clean them? I've got about 28k miles on my stock filters so they've gotten some use at least. Also with my fast intentions exhaust and if i install these filters do I need to get a tune? I don't think I would with just those 2 things.

Just drop them in and go. Only need to oil them when you clean them. Can't say I noticed any real difference between these and the stock filters though. But my butt dyno may be out of calibration.

I don't think you need a tune with just the FI CBE and the drop ins. I guess I will fine out when I get my FI in late Sept.

Simply put, don't. The oil used has been known to mess with Nissan MAF sensors. It'll coat the sensor causing erratic readings. I would suggest saving money for an extra month and going with a pro dry filter setup on a CAI or SRI.

That is urban myth. If you ever have a problem call K&N & they will fight the dealers claims 100% K&N Response to Mass Air Flow Sensor Concerns Drop them in & go. By the way dry filters don't filter as well. You might get a little better airflow, but at loss of filtration.

Dry filters offer the same filtrations as a stock filter, the issue with K&N filters is that people do not know how to properly clean and oil them. I can't tell you how many cars I've had to remove the MAF and clean due to a heavy oil coating which leads to a heavy dust coating that cause the sensor to cause a higher than expected resistance, dumping extra fuel, ect ect. However, you're entitled to your own opinions.

I've had the filters in for about 15k now.. No complaints.

No tune should be needed, but when you do get a tune, youll probably squeeze a few more whp out of the filters and exhaust.

Having faith in a company to be honest about it's products is like saying our government has our best interest at heart.

Looking at their website I do like that they really stand behind their product. I'm not really looking to install a full CAI. I have an FI exhaust and I wasn't planning on doing anything more as far as performance goes..but these filters just look like they are a nice simple minor performance mod. I have an extended warranty also so a simple mod like these filters is appealing. If I tracked the car or just used it on weekends hell I'd probably have a twin turbo in it, but I dd my Z so I'm not going too crazy. I think I'll take a trip to auto zone tomorrow and at least take a look at them. Which means I will probably buy them

FYI I'm making a DIY cai. For a few dollars more than drop in's and a post MAF tubes, and way less than stillen cai, I think it's the best of both worlds!! It will be using the stillen k&n filters and if you don't want post MAF tubes to save on price then it's very close to the drop in price and nice cold air from the bumper.

So I just installed the k&n drop ins and drove down the road real quick. Tough to notice anything initially, if anything the engine is a little louder. The old filters had about 29k miles on them and were fairly dirty. The clips that hold them into the air boxes are fastened pretty tight with the new filter. I'm almost afraid the clips could pop off if I go over a big bump. Has anyone had this problem? I'm sure they're fine though. Il give an update again tomorrow after I drive to work and back.

I read that they are a snug fit but should be fine.

I have had no issues with these filters and you can see my gains with a tune and other exhaust mods in my signature line. I would definitely suggest going this route if you have any plans of going force induction in the future!

I have a G37 and installed these over the weekend. My car yelled at me when I pressed the START button "took you 50k miles before putting a set in for me! Bastard!" Got a great deal too -- 47.00 each! Yeah!
