^^

Yes I will probably scrape with my stock

HngNgn19 03-15-2014 01:28 PM

Genesis, Noooooooooo! don't do it! I'm not sure how fast you need to leave your neighborhood, but I'm sure you can take an extra minute or minute and a half to angle and clear all those four speed bumps! Don't do it man, you will regret it!

cooltoy 03-15-2014 01:37 PM

See if a shop can weld on little angle plates to protect the edge.

How would they do that?

Dude I just took a ride down the street and I'm hurting inside. Feels like pure orgasm

Also this, I believe I read somewhere that Tony at FI welded some skid plates to the edge of the Cans to keep them from being damaged, you should look into this. You'll be scraping, but at least it's not your Cans!

genesis2012 03-15-2014 02:00 PM

^^

Just talked to the exhaust shop. They told me it's undoable :(

cooltoy 03-15-2014 02:40 PM

Why not. All you need is an angle bracket to be attached to the SS part of the can, or the pipe and then angle across the CF. At least in my mind that's how I'd do it. Obviously you can't weld to the CF.

Try hitting up Tony @ FI, maybe he has some insight to the skid plates. Can't hurt, worth a try I say. Just don't talk to him too long, he still needs to fabricate my CBE ;)

genesis2012 03-15-2014 04:34 PM

Hahaha

cooltoy 03-15-2014 05:20 PM

He told me it was not possible either because of CF, but when I go the exhaust, I thought "hmm why could it be done in the way I described", but Tony might have a good explanation.

genesis2012 03-15-2014 05:53 PM

Anyway, I sold the exhaust because of the practicality of living in the new neighborhood. My car is lowered and the speedbumps are too gnarly for me too handle everyday.

Enjoy FI everyone lol. I'll return to FI either when I move or raise my car back up.

genesis2012 03-15-2014 05:55 PM

Oh btw, the stock exhaust sounds like a Prius lol

NismoZ70 03-17-2014 12:08 PM

If someone is looking to buy the FI exhaust, I am still selling my place in line. Delivery would be around mid-May. Let me know.

From what I've noticed, they seem to ship out 5 per week on Fridays...just saw a pattern based upon who got their CBE for that week... of course I could be wrong. I know that it was up to 912 last week and the week before that, FI shipped out CBE up to 906 or so, so yea...It's getting close for us 920's! Good luck to everyone!

billsdoo 03-21-2014 04:47 AM

Number 913 here and just received it yesterday. But can't do anything for a little while here in New Hampshire. The car is supposed to come out storage at the end of the month. I think I have to pay an extra month of storage:(

Also installed my 370z.com stickers today, after a wash, polish and wax in anticipation of the exhaust install. I heard the stickers give you 20 - 50 extra HP just by themselves.

XwChriswX It was a very long night and very long Saturday! the nuts to the cats were seized so badly even with the right tools for the job and tons of penetrating oil I couldn't get them to release. I ended up rounding the nuts. Note to any DIY'er have a benzene torch at the ready and start with that. Don't even bother trying to do them without. You'll save yourself so much trouble. I ended up buying the Irwin Bolt Extractor set to yank those suckers outta there. I hung up my hat Friday night around midnight and continued into 2pm Saturday afternoon. I learned a lot with this install... buy a blowtorch! lol

Tony it sounds awesome! I'm totally satisfied with the purchase :happydance:

cooltoy 03-24-2014 11:33 AM

Do you guys think that these bolts would be as much trouble to remove on a brand new car? Do they get worth with age or are they this bad right from the factory?

wsarver 03-24-2014 11:40 AM

There's a few things that I'm guessing made them hard to remove but I can only guess as I'm the second owner. I have a 2009 and I believe its from up north so maybe it has some salt exposure. But its only got 38,000 miles so I didn't think they'd be that tough. I ended up replacing those nuts against the cats and also the gasket as the ones to be reused from the factory were rotten beyond any chance of reusing them. I sealed everything up and tried to use them but had exhaust leaks all the way around. If it were me I would buy the nuts ahead of time as a precaution and also exhaust flanges between stock cat and the kit. It would have saved me a lot of running around time trying to beat the dealerships closing times. Would I do it again myself? Absolutely. It is so worth it. I would just prepare a little more to save myself the hassle.

Totally dependent on your mileage and the environment the vehicle is driven in. I've had my car since June 2010 in South Florida with approximately 70,000 miles. Bolts were seized so I had to resort to my floor jack handle as a breaker bar slipped on the 3/8 ratchet wrench. Air tools would certainly make the job easier and faster but apparently not necessary.

soxfan69 03-24-2014 07:02 PM

U may not use it much.. but when u need it, a 1/2" impact works wonders!

dichoi 03-24-2014 09:20 PM

anyone know what the lead time is for a new exhaust right now? I know Tony's away for a little while but hope he gets back soon!

zfanatic19 03-24-2014 09:34 PM

You're probably looking at around 6-8 weeks although I know someone was selling their spot in line, might want to look a few pages earlier if you're interested

kfull 03-24-2014 09:41 PM

Just wanted to pop in and say my FI exhaust has held up great though a very snowy winter. Undercarriage washes help a lot. Gave her a proper wash last weekend, wiped down the carbon fiber and it looks like new. Next wash I do, I plan on polishing up the metal. Cheers!
