Well I just put an order down for NST Pulleys, Motordyne Intake Manifold and AEM CAI. Next on my list is the Y pipe and CBE. I guess I'll be answering my own question. If my wallet doesn't hurt after this... The shop will sure put the hurt on me when I take it in with a truck full of parts to get on there. After exhaust, I think I'll upgrade the drivetrain (flywheel, clutch, & LSD with cover).

Side note: Ran a 7:58 on my game now :P My thumbs hurt for the better part of two days...

Well I have more parts to add AEM CAI (grey) came in, grey NST pulley's arrived, as did the Motordyne intake manifold. I finally got everything worked out with the oil cooler (USPS is a PITA) and I finally ordered the XYZ Y pipe. I've been trying to hold off for Motordyne to bring out their exhaust (I guess I like their products?), but I think I'm just going to pull the trigger on Tanabe. I would have ordered earlier, but I had to help the Wife catch up on $2,000 worth of tuition this past month. It kinda put a damper on my ordering process. Some things are an investment for the future and I wasn't going to let her throw education aside because of money problems she hid in the closet. So with that back on track, Tanabe exhaust will be ordered on the 1st. I'll be home from deployment by mid January; Just in time to get it installed and a tune by Paladin Automotive here in Las Vegas. This will at least hold me off until the next line of upgrades that will be targeting the drivetrain and brakes.

Maybe I should start a Journal when my parts get put on.

Bump!

I was actually thinking about this setup for a while, even before I saw this thread. I wanted something relatively quiet while making decent power; not a huge fan of super loud exhausts. I still have the stock exhaust from the y-pipe back, not ideal for ultimate power but budget/choices were limited. Later down the road I will replace this with something else.

added on this build:
FI longtube headers
Motordyne XYZ pipe w/ cat
Stillen crank pulley
Uprev tune - (done by Jack @ HP Logic)

already had:
4.08 gears - (note: Jack mentioned that these typically lower the dyno reading by ~15rwhp)
HPS intake tubes
JWT flywheel
Berk HFC's - (replaced these w/ the FI LTH's)

Comments:
-The car sounds very similar to HFC's w/ stock catback, but just a bit quieter (at idle through mid-range RPM's).
-Definitely louder at WOT now. Sorry, no sound clips.
-makes power up to 8000 RPM now
-no funny exhaust smell (doesn't bother me anyway)
-no CEL's
-some rasp on cold starts and WOT, just enough to sound good but not ricey

In the end, my Z dyno'ed ~270whp on a Mustang dyno. From what I was told, stock 370Z's put down about 230 to 240whp on the HP Logic dyno. So I'm about 30 to 40 whp more than stock. Not bad. Also, had the revlimited raised to 8000 RPM, made power up to there. Definitely would have made more high RPM power w/ CAI's and full exhaust.

I'm heading to the track this week, we'll see if I can do better than my best ET of 12.89 seconds and/or my best trap speed of 108.5 mph.

Thanks to Jnaut (J Spec Auto) for the deal on parts & install and Jack @ HP Logic for the custom tune.

I'm glad to see others are doing this. I ordered the Tanabe exhaust and is waiting for me at home. I'm finally back in the States doing the demobilizing process. I should be home the 15th. Should I start a build thread or use this one?

No Funky Exhaust smell with LTH? Interesting, that's probably the biggest reason why I didn't order them. Just didn't want my clothes to stink lol.

The reason why my setup doesnt have a funky smell is because I have a Motordyne xyz pipe that has a cat on it. See the pic i uploaded.

WOOT , I'm finally home! I put about 150 miles on the Z in two days. Hopefully I can start figuring out how to get this stuff on the car. I'm a tech junky, not a mechanic. I'm thinking with a bit of oversight from one at the Nellis hobby shop, I can face drag myself through it... Or get it to a point where it may need some polish from a real wrench monkey when I bring it in for tuning. Anything you guys recommend leaving for the mechanic from my parts list?

I'm finally getting the entire exhaust put on this weekend, so I'm really excited. I had to fight with the Wife to let me put it on. Tonight I'm heading up to Force Fed Tuning on Arville here in Las Vegas to get a baseline done. It's a dynojet, so I'm excited to see some results. She just got rained on so I'm gonna get her cleaned up before her big hour lol. BTW, my Z doesn't have a name, I just refer to it as a female. Any ideas? She's magnetic black... just like my Wife, only I get to drive her whenever I want. She did scare me the other day. I was merging lanes at 60mph and had TCS off. I had it in 3rd and romped it. The car broke loose and swerved into the lane I was intending on moving into. Luckily I didn't hit anyone, but I looked like a complete jackass. Anyways, I'll post up results and hopefully a video.

First and foremost I apologize about the video quality. The video is from the first run.. I did three runs total. The first run was in 4th gear, the 2nd in 3rd gear, and the last run was in 4th again. The first two runs were 265hp and 222 lb ft of torque. The last run is shown below.

Got it working. Sorry about that. Exhaust and new dyno run tomorrow. Then hopefully I can get the rest installed in a couple weeks. But I think I'll def need a tune after that.
