Since you don't have to drill the oil pan or tap the head, a DIY is actually an option.

m3chhawk 07-22-2013 10:21 AM

When you are comparing this kit vs. a Garrett kit (either GTM or otherwise), the cost justification is in much more than the power levels.

Go for the DIY and I will gladly lend a hand. No experience in installation, but I have degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering so I understand the concepts (for the little value that's it worth for installation haha)

SPOHN 07-22-2013 11:00 AM

The kit is easy to install per say. The manifold and the turbo might be tight but after that its a breeze. Sams instructions are pretty clear. It does require some thinking on your part for small things.

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 11:03 AM

Do you have to mess with the steering column or put a spacer on the motor mount like the Garrett kit? If not, it seems pretty straightforward. You're going to need someone with small hands and a **** ton of extensions, but it should be doable.

No steering knuckle on this kit. It might have to be moved to get better clearance. But no spacer is added. No big deal either way.

Extensions and swivels are your best friend. Some people had to use crows feet on the Garrett kits. Hate those.

Also with GTM's new manifold not sure if you need a spacer on the steering knuckle.

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 11:32 AM

Wow. Sounds like they've gotten it to be a straight bolt-on affair with no major surgery. Very cool.

No steering coupler required with this kit. One of our goals was to make this kit as DIY friendly as possible.

Chuck33079 07-22-2013 11:43 AM

Very cool. This kit sounds like a fun project. The Garrett kit was pretty invasive, so there was no question that I'd farm the install out to a shop that had done several. This one I could handle.

Exactly how I felt. Plus with work and family it would have taken a really long time. My boy did it in about a week n a half and that was also waiting for some parts to arrive.

Dzel 07-22-2013 02:59 PM

Add soon as I get a shipment email. I'm tearing of the headers, front bumper and the intakes

Ummmm....you don't know me very well. I have problems with balsa wood airplanes. :shakes head: LOL

Seriously, I work about 110-125 hours every two weeks and after I get my sleep I might get three days off a pay period. In '05 I did a steroid cycle and I got huge, especially my hands and forearms from using strictly dumbells. Everybody at work jokes about the size of my hands. I'm screwed. My wife would have a better chance of installing it, she built a desk from pieces of wood that I thought was gonna be a train wreck but it turned out pretty damn good.

I'm gonna have to pay someone and that's the best decision I can make...believe me. The wait will suck but it'll be worth it. Maybe things will change if my wife gets a job. :stirthepot:

I have to see results for FI before and after along with final cost.

Nixlimited 07-22-2013 07:48 PM

Sam, are you going to sell an intake manifold / runner cover that goes with the new manifold so we can see that beauty? May have to add it to my list...

Run that GT-R manifold naked! The way god intended, son!

In all seriousness...I seriously can't wait for this. I see no reason why I can't just call my bank tomorrow morning and add this on to my kit. :icon18:

SS_Firehawk 07-22-2013 09:38 PM

OMFG, just got to my room and saw the pics... F'n excited about that oil pan

Sh0velMan 07-22-2013 10:33 PM

I need:
Price and availability on the oil pan
Price and dyno results (N/A) on the GTR manifold adapter.

:)

370zrider 07-22-2013 10:34 PM

I suppose you're going to test the new intake manifold with the MHI TT kit.

:eekdance: need testing results...

.

Master_Ly 07-22-2013 11:21 PM

Thanks for the update, SAM@GTM.

Will the manifold and adapter work with the stock bar?

gbrettin 07-23-2013 09:39 PM

The GTR Intake on the Z... :yum:

That part alone needs its own thread.

We have brought in a virgin test vehicle specifically to test the manifold on multiple levels: all the way from stock, untuned to tuned, tuned with intakes, OEM exhaust, aftermarket exhaust, turbo and supercharger kit. We will also be developing a strut tower brace that will work with the GTR manifold.

Unfortunately, I broke my leg over the weekend and it is making things difficult to do on crutches. Hopefully in a few days, we'll be back on track and start sharing the results.

Mike will be posting up a couple threads in regards to purchasing the GTR manifold at a promotional pricing for pre-orders. We will be selling the lower manifold by itself and also as a complete kit with engine cover and fuel rails. Also, we'll be posting a link for the oil pan for those that want to purchase it. It should be available to ship within the next few weeks.

Curious to see if the gains out weigh the cost not to mention a retune since its sure to effect the A/F. By the looks of it its not going to cheap.....

Alstann 07-24-2013 03:34 PM

The news is coming hard, and it's coming fast!

Sorry to hear about the leg, Sam. Get better soon man!

I can't wait to see the promotional pricing. Gonna have to put in some extra hours at work!

elperuano 07-24-2013 04:03 PM

^What he said. Definitely interested In the results.

SAM@GTM 07-24-2013 07:34 PM
