I take what my shop tells me with a grain of salt. Not all shops have experience with our particular vehicles. Mine told me they only ever see SC's make an additional 50whp, but I know they were looking at it when they put them on Honda's. In reality These few are really on trolling each other. No one likes being wrong, and no one likes to be called stupid. Now everyone has to justify their intelligence by name calling and throwing facts they found from the internet with no reputable source or skewed testing.
OP there is enough info here to decide whether to get VBU upgrade. No one here cares about hearsay, just facts, documented results. If none such thing exists, have the balls to try it yourself before bashing. If you do get this upgrade, please inform us! You will help an entire group of Z owners. I post all of my results and findings in hopes other people will find value in my own headaches and rewards. So put your douches away, your moms back home, and cease the child like name calling. Resurrect this thread when we have something meaningful.

The shop that I was referring too that is a well known one is Z1 and they said that I didn't need the GTM VBU upgrade as they could do the same with a tune, so my main questioning was what would the "real" benefits of getting the VBU done by itself get me? So hope that perks everyone's curiosity of which shop I was referring too and the reason I'm asking, don't have 2k to go throwing around just to "find out" the hard way.

@3zworld You are welcome to call us here at the shop anytime Monday - Saturday 9am - 6pm PST. Our shop number is (909) 481-4300.
Just to help you guys out on what we do with the valve body and how it is different from the line pressure increase done in UpRev, here is our description from our website: GTM Motorsports*::*AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION*::*GTM Valvebody Upgrade for 7 speed A/T We are proud to present the only high performance modified Valve Body Upgrade option for the Nissan/Infiniti RE710E 7 Speed Automatic Transmission. After many months of development and testing on our own shop G37, we were able to dial in the modifications necessary to increase pressure to specific parts of the transmission to increase the holding power of the 7 speed transmission. Not only does the upgrade increase pressure, it also improves shift quality and response. The 4th to 5th shift now executes significantly faster and the lazy, delayed factory shift is eliminated. We also perform modifications to every individual circuit to fine tune the oil volume so the applied pressure can be controlled more precisely. Also, the EPC Solenoid is modified to handle higher line pressure. The beauty of this modification is that nice, smooth shift points under low loads in fully automatic mode are left intact for comfortable driving around town, while the character of the transmission changes drastically in manual mode at higher loads for spirited driving. Unlike TCM reprogramming that raises pressure across the board and ultimately in areas that don't need it, such as downshifting, pressure is only higher when it is called for. |

i have the built tranney with the VB upgrade. the difference in the 4th to 5th gear change is 100 times better than the stock 7 AT. Stock time to shift is .680 of a second for this shift. I have not data loged it yet but i can tell you is way faster and crisper.
The harder you push it in MM the faster it shifts ( with authority) Can not wait till the drag strip open next year, the differnce in shift times will put me in to the 12.1's easy. i normally shift between 7900 to 8100 rpm. I have done one data log run of the 7AT but will not post any shift times as i want to do another data log run to confirm my results. All im going to say is that the shift times were very quick. some as fast as .225 -.240 of a second vs .30 and .31 on my car. Z

Great news GMT rebuilt auto and valve body is in feels great and i still haven't tuned the Auto yet. just bumped the boost to 12pounds so it feels at the limit with boost just need to play with the tune get a little more down low will keep everyone posted. A little advice for anyone with a Stillen s/c kit do not misplace your cable to tune your car they wanted to charge more $700 for a new one
