Boosted Performance single turbo build

If the kit only preserved the crash beam... That's a non-starter for me. Awesome results though. Nice for the community to have options.

Is losing the crash beam really that big of a deal? Doesn't the FMIC kind of replace it? I haven't examined the beam that closely, but isn't it just hollow aluminum?

No, yes, and yes.

There is a lot of aluminium replacing the crash bar:

The brackets are 304 stainless, not aluminium, so much stronger than average:

Mitco39 and WI_Hedgehog like this.

As is pointed out above, there is a lot of metal going in its place. That certainly would help. The difference is the crash bar is designed to direct impact energy around the front impact area and into the frame siderails and away from the cockpit. The FMIC is not designed for this purpose. In a serious collision, I would venture to guess that the crash beam would be a significantly safer option.

Not taking anything away from this awesome kit. Just saying that an FMIC and a purpose-built crash beam are apples and oranges from a safety perspective.

Looks like FI could never be in your future. Wether you lose the crash and replace it with an intercooler, or jam intercoolers behind the crash bar not allowing it to crumple your going to have to give up something. Moral of the story, don't get in an accident lol

Round of applause

I agree with what you, the only thing I miss about my crash beam is my tow hook.

The JIG's look awesome

Ditto.

To Boosted Performance:

Not sure if I am reading the graph correctly, but is this puppy in full boost by 3500-4000 ish RPM? That would be crazy fast for a street car.

With the boost controller 10psi by 3800rpm, so yes it is very responsive.

It's definitely in my future, but it will be with a crash beam. Having survived two accidents that I probably shouldn't have, I am remiss to mess with the safety engineers' work...

But, the point of this thread is BP's kit, which looks to be coming along quite nicely
