The short answer is that it will not be better, it will be worst, a lot worst. If you want better mileage get a prius.

Back to snuffing baby foxes and melting the icecaps please.

I was curious because the gas mileage for the vvel is not very good to begin with. For an everyday driver if it is going to adversely affect the mileage I would scrap the idea because I have another car that is purely a weekend driver that I will spend the money on. Putting the SC on my infiniti was just one possibility for me.

If detonation is not normal and therefore should not not happen as some of you are promoting that belief, then why do all modern day engines have anti-knock sensors? The truth is, detonation can happen under certain conditions of loading in all engines and therefore it is normal to expect any engine to have detonation but not all the time of course. Just sayin'....:tiphat: Now, back to your bashing.

Detonation = new 4.5 stroker block. Its only $$$$$$$$.
stock stroker block 11.1 compression with bolts on's would make 375 rwhp easy.
No sc issues, no tranny issues. and i bet that it would sound great.
7 At + stroker, 4.08 gears 3200 stall conveter and a VB. That would be one fast Z.

did you just actually say that? the knock sensor are there to stop the detination. so damage does not happen. they know it is bad and have devised a way to prevent it. how is that saying it is normal? you fail on alot of levels.

So how can a car detect knock and therefore adjust timing in order to prevent it? By detecting it in the first place. :icon23:

And than retard timing to PREVENT it cause it is UNwanted!

Definitely not arguing with that!

The car has a built in knock sensor to pull timing if it senses any type of pinging. They've had them on the 350z and G35 too.

ok, i didn't want to resort to the forum with this, but i'm not getting any resolution otherwise. Has anyone with this kit experienced engine knock? My car, what seems at random, seems to go into a different mode/map and i experience tip-in knock. When this occurs, the car also idles high, like 1200rpm instead of 700rpm. The knock occurs without any code being thrown. Also, when i turn off the car, and then start it again...it goes back to normal as if the ecu switched back to the regular tune/map.

Any insight appreciated.

Different mode? wonder if your car is going into that phantom limp mode from MAF location..yikes. One piece of info though that might be useful is that my car was idling high a few weeks ago and threw a code. I just reset it and the code went away and so did the high idle. Problem never came back.

So the high idle is because of the issue and not part of it.

Well, this has happened multiple times. Engine knock, high idle, cycle engine power and it's gone. Then it crops up again on no apparent pattern. And the knock is very audible....in traffic, i can hear it echoing off of the other cars! it's very embarrassing. And the kit with it's unique sound and the high idle, it sounds like an airplane when it is idling high and you're pulling into a parking lot. Also embarrissing.
