Default Never-ending BP single turbo woes

First the COMP turbo dies after 882 miles. I bought a Boost Lab 6870, plumbed it up for oil and coolant; went for a 101 mile test drive and all was well. Or so I thought.

Went under the car today and found this .

Pretty clearly a leak in the manifold. Appeared within the last 100 miles. Header/manifold flange has F.I. gaskets and was torqued to spec. O2 sensors were also torqued to spec and were tight when inspected.

I've had the BP kit for just over 1,000 miles and I have to say, I am not impressed with the quality control.

Went with Ghostvette's suggestion, took the manifold into a darkened room, shone a light into the driver side flange, and looked for outgoing photons. The exhaust leak (surprise surprise) is coming from the flex pipe portion of the manifold.

Wonder if it was because you wrapped it?

Just junk chinesium flex pipes. Good chance that piece killed the first turbo. He's lucky a second chunk didn't come off and get the new one.

Apparently you're not supposed to wrap or coat the pipe before the flex, as it causes the heat to concentrate in the flex. But the breakage was at the far end of the flex from the flange.

I'll also note that I didn't have to put tension on the flex pipe to attach the manifold to the headers. That can also cause premature failure. Might want to look into that, JLarson...

I had my flex section fail on mine about 6 months after install ….had to cut it out and replace the section…. I message Sasha about it and he reimbursed me the cost of the repair.
