Hey guys wondering what oil you all are using with your TT setups. I am running 5W30 but recently my tuner is saying I should bump up to 5W40 as I am having higher oil temperatures. Is this true?

5W-30 and 5W-40 have the same cold or low end protection, but the 5W-40 has a higher temperature threshold than 5W-30. I just made that switch myself, so far no problems. I am using Motul Ester 5W-40.

I have used Mobile 1 0-40 in my Z before it was boosted and switched to Rotella T6 after installing my BP kit.

I have used several different brands and they are all good. I started tracking my z so now I run 0w50 Eneos. I have run Mobil 1 and Liqui Moly in 0w40 as well.

My original oil cooler came with my BP kit, so I believe my spacer was 1 qt and the oil cooler eats up a decent amount. I got in a wreck and had to by a new oil cooler and it was a bit bigger and keeps my oil at 170 to 190 at all times.

I think last change I added a 5 qt jug and then the best of 2 extra single qt bottles.

I ran a 40 weight oil in my car over the summer and had zero issues. I like to run 30 in the “cooler” Florida months and 40 from about June to October.

The biggest deal is to get your oil up to operating temp and keep it there. The next is about handling the additional heat from the FI system so that parts don't break down due to lack of lubrication. I just got a report back from Blackstone and it came back with flying colors.

Even with my small oil cooler I rarely see operating temps above 208/210. This time of year in Florida I’ll be lucky to have my oil temp within operating “spec” temps, which I believe starts at 180?? These are not track temps. This is just driving normally around town, getting on it here and there, stop and go traffic etc.

Remember you can add about 10* to 20* based on where the oil temp is taken. My temp here in the winter can get fairly cool...in the 50s and 40s. When cruising on the highway my temp gauge will read 160. You may need to block part of your oil cooler off to get temps to stay up. Under normal conditions mine is always about 200 or 210.
