1slow370 02-12-2016 10:34 PM

Damn vortech input shaft bearings they'll getcha everytime. Probably to tight on the belt or something. That or something got sucked in only two ways they die unless it was low on lube and smoked the output bearings. Sucks balls fo sho.

RadioFlyer 02-13-2016 12:30 AM

Oh my goodness, you've got to be kidding me... I don't know what to say.

Hope that's not true !? :shakes head:

mikey1600 02-13-2016 05:12 AM

are you still running the standard charger unit or have upgraded impeller? I'm guessing the standard unit from your 9psi'ish results but just wanted to double check, can't remember seeing it through the build

BOLIO 671 02-13-2016 08:23 AM

Don't worry to much man, who put the new bearings in your blower?

Was it vortech? if so they'll warranty it.

Worst case - the impeller was damaged. But I bet the bearings went, now its make a god awful noise!

I have seen new bearings go on blowers a bunch of times.

maybe your boost problem this whole time has to do with that blower??!?!?

Maybe it wasn't setup right!

JWillis72 02-13-2016 09:26 AM

The rebuild was with 928 high speed kit and done by the shop here. The impeller was shimmed and spaced by 928 motorsports. This is just unbelievable, I can't believe this isn't over. I just told him I'm ordering a new supercharger and he told me to wait, I'm not sure why.

So, the fact that your shop toasted the blower they rebuilt means they're footing the bill, right?

JWillis72 02-13-2016 09:43 AM

I don't see that happening.

Dude, I applaud your self control. The fact that you haven't put your tuner in the hospital multiple times to have a boot removed from his *** means you're a far better man than I.

EVOHUNTER 02-13-2016 09:54 AM

I hope these guys followed the install on these chargers.

Its a lot more complicated then just putting it back together.

http://www.starrland.com/Supercharge...%202-22-08.pdf

Chuck33079 02-13-2016 09:56 AM

Somehow I doubt it. This shop sounds pretty close to completely incompetent when it comes to this build. Why would they change that now?

Z&I 02-13-2016 10:18 AM

OUCH !!!
Upgraded 928 Motorsports Impeller ???
The SC'r might have been at least part of the problem all along.
Maybe that transmission growl wasn't the trans at all ...

TopgunZ 02-13-2016 10:24 AM

I still can't believe this either. You were like the 4th highest torque on this kit ever and everyone but Swiss and I were on over 12psi to do it, and theirs were timebombs.

That shop had to have put it together wrong. Guessing this was the boost issue as well.

JWillis72 02-13-2016 11:53 AM

The shop owner is telling me to wait but I think I'm ordering a new supercharger from vortech so I know it's right and have a warranty again.

maybe upgrade it then?

what do you guys think of the v7 blower?

I don't think its internally lubricated, but would put down massive power.

TopgunZ 02-13-2016 12:33 PM

I don't think the v7 fits up. But I never researched it.

It's physically larger so it isn't a straight swap.
I considered this option as well.
IMHO It is also overkill for a stock motor.
There used to be a sponsor [Bobby] who put one in for a customer [can't recall the name of the shop at the moment]
He designed his own bracket and charge tubes in order to get it in.
The bracket was mounted much lower and the arm was shorter to reduce bracket flex.
The charge tubes were of unequal length
Unfortunately he never offered this to me as a product I could buy.

Comparing Vortech SCR's

Found this on the 350z site:
This was posted regarding the physical characteristics of the different vortech SC'rs but doesn't include the actual performance specs.
You can go to the Vortech site for them.

V2 Si = std bearing 53rpm/more efficient cast impeller
V2 T = HD bearing 55krpm/cast impeller
V1 T = HD bearing but bigger straight cut gears so stronger but noisier than the V2 >V3

V3 SCi = V2 SCi = std bearing 53krpm/improved cast impellers rom sc

V2 Ti (new) = HD bearing 55rpm/ more efficient billet impeller
V1 Ti : as above

V7 YSi = HD race bearing 65krpm/ cast impeller
V7 YSi (new)= HD race bearing 65krpm/ billet impeller

The V2 as offers superior cooling but others prefer the simplicity of the self lubricated V3. But if you factor in the recommended sc oil changes it's not so simple or cheap.

JWillis72 02-13-2016 02:00 PM

Topgunz and I talked about it today, im leaning V1ti or V2ti. I'm calling Vortech Monday to discuss it with them. It's more than I need but it will be nice to have options in the future. I want the HD bearings and using the cars oil.

TopgunZ 02-13-2016 02:26 PM

An important spec here is that the ti flows 1450cfm, which is monster compared to the si 1150.

yep ... just addressing the v7 question posted earlier

EVOHUNTER 02-13-2016 06:23 PM

how would that thing boost properly? the right side bank is like 4 times longer.

I don't see the mafs? maybe SD tuned.. but i can see why it was never produced.

I want a v24 xb105 hahaha 2900 cfm

He wasn't 100% satisfied with it so he opted not to produce it.
It ended up being a one off for that particular customer.

To his credit he is honest...and unfortunately, out of business

nvdave04 02-16-2016 11:04 AM

question for you 7at guys on ecutek ? I was told people were having issues with map sensor readings on 7at on ecutek ? I really want to switch to ecutek but want to make sure I'm safe ?

StillenZ84 02-16-2016 11:14 AM

Switch to the Haltech 3 bar map sensor and you will be good.

I'm a noob when it comes to boost lol I know I'm sorry.. What exactly does this do ? Is this hard to install ? And where do I buy this ? Thank you for the input

StillenZ84 02-16-2016 01:04 PM

There is something with the stock MAP sensor that doesn't allow Speed Density to be tuned correctly with Ecutek. It is a simple install. I have a drawing of how it hooks up in my pictures on my profile. I am no artist but you can get the point. In addition to the Haltech MAP sensor, I installed an in-line filter as well. This makes tuning a lot more precise and your ECU will be able to tell a huge difference. It helps with a more consistent airflow. You can purchase this about anywhere online but I got mine from my tuner Seb at Specialty Z.
