Default Vinyl wrapping rooftop

Hey guys, considering doing this. However, thinking how crappy nissan paint is, im a bit paranoid that if i decide to take it off, i might take off the paint also lol. In all seriousness, how well does vinyl wrap stick to paint? Has anyone vinyl wrapped their Z and then decided to take it off? I ask because i saw some pics of a G35 if i remember correctly that had wrapped his car and when he took it off, paint came off also

To remove the vinyl you heat it up with a heat gun or torch which causes it to soften and come off easily with no glue... don't worry you'll be fine!

You'll be fine. We've removed my roof wrap overlays that have been on cars for 5 years now, paint looks good as new!

like i say you brother... if you go with a shop that works great with that type of mods you are not going to have any issue... installing or removing the vinyl... so go to Exclusive Auto and get your roof done

I have not yet read the replies, but here's my background and input:
I've been working with vinyl since I was 16....and have almost 20 years of experience with wraps/signmaking.

If you are using a reputable wrap material from a known manufacturer (Avery Dennison, Arlon, 3M, Oracal, etc) you will not have any issue of paint separation unless there was already etching beginning, clearcoat chipping, etc, going on.

Additionally, a good shop can remove the film without issue. The angle of pull when removing vinyl can vary from vendor to vendor, however, all of them require heat to release easier. I've pulled wraps off cars that have been on the paint over a decade without harm. Granted, that type of situation is extreme and taking precautions saved the underlying paint (which didn't matter much as he needed to repaint anyway with 10+ years of fade to the exposed paint and little to none where the vinyl laid).

If you remove the wrap within 5-7 years (most manufacturers warranty and recommended lifespan), on good paint, you will not have any issue.

Both cars completely wrapped

I personally know of a member whose OEM paint was peeled off when he took his wrap off.

BUT if you heat it up while removing you should be fine

This is something that has worried me as well, but as far as I can tell there are no issues with removing wraps of good quality by people who know what they are doing. One thing that no one really knows for sure is how well it ages, good paint will last years if not decades. Vinyl wraps are plastic and especially in sun plastic doesn't hold up well, removing 5 year old wrap might be a big hassle if it ends up coming off in little pieces rather than the norm of one large piece.

As long as you are using a high quality vinyl like the 3M Hexis material you won't have any issue removing the vinyl

The cheapo no-name vinyl that you find from ebay might be an issue but I can attest that the 3M versions are really good and I have it installed on both of my cars

You shouldn't have any issues removing it, however I am not sure if it is just me but I have had a lot of problems with my vinyl shrinking and exposing some white around the edges. I am going to have it painted in the next few months.
