Default Thread Dyed my Interior

After seeing this thread: Stitch dye? Anyone brave enough to try? , I decided to give it a shot and change my silver threads to red. I followed gurneyeagle's advice to use an orange pen first, then overlay a red pen, and I am super satisfied with the way it came out!

Here are the pens I used (purchased from a local Michael's craft store):

The tips are super fine - with some patience, you could simply dye only the thread. I was slightly impatient with that, and instead just used long strokes across multiple sections of sewn thread.

Here are some progress pictures and the final results. Note that the close up pictures show some residue from the marker on the leather - I decided to let it dry fully before I wiped it off the leather, because using a damp towel on the threads made the color slightly less saturated. Also, these pictures are on a VERY cloudy/overcast day - I'll take some more sunny pictures when I get the chance.

Total cost for this mod was around $5. It was a super easy mod to do, it just took a bloody long time. The color is definetly spot on - it's not overly vibrant and tacky, it looks rich and like it belongs there.

Thanks guys. After looking at the threads at night, it seems like they are colored burgundy, but I suspect that has to do with the silvery light that the moon gives off. I also am not familiar with how the Nismo seats look. I'll take some daytime pictures tomorrow like I promised.

As for how long it took to do the threads, I'm gonna say around 2 or so hours. At first, I thought I was gonna color each individual thread section, but I quickly decided that would be a gargantuan task. I decided to rapidly stroke sections of the thread with the orange pen (light base coat), and then go in with the red more deliberately and slowly, to get the rich color. Once you get a rhythm going, you'll be going in no time.

Hmmm interesting, does the dye bleed off on ur clothes? I wear white tees alot, wouldn't want it rubbing off the seats on me.

Looks great btw.

If you read back a ways in the original thread here, you can see where I have posted that I have not had any bleeding or fading since doing this mod with the Uchida pens over a year ago. No dye transfer at all to clothes. ONLY FOR THE UCHIDA PENS THOUGH!

As others have said - these markers will NOT rub off onto your clothing. They are the same color as when I put them on the threads.

Word of caution, though. I do not recommend using a damp towel to wipe the threads for the first day. It seems that the water seriously dilutes the color to a more pale pink, as when I noticed them this morning. I went over the pale threads with the red pen again, and the richness was restored. I will let them dry fully this time.

Ok, so I saw this thread and it got me curious. I ran out and bought blue uchida fabric marker and did a test run on my boot. I went stitch by stitch. It took me about an hour to do the entire boot.

It is a tedious process, if anyone does this make sure you do the top of the stitch and the sides. If you get it on the other material you have about 1-2 minutes to wipe it off. I just used my fingernails to wipe if off and it came off clean. Also I talked to the people at the store when I bought it, they said it will not bleed and is nearly impossible to get off once dry.
