Most of the durability problems I've seen on here have to do with wear on the door handles and rock dings on the fangs. Going by the lack of other complaints, I'll venture that you can use anything you'd use on the factory paint. Maybe someone with experience will chime in and confirm/deny that. |
I really just want to have fun with it :) and remove it within a month or two. While I wait for the carbon fiber on the z to be finished i wanted to plasti dip the red :)
|
I run My z through random car washes and not one problem.

Create Carbon Fiber Look with Plasti Dip - YouTube You can buy red plastidip and black dip. Then get the glossifier to put over the top. Then take pics to show how different real carbon fiber is next to plastidiped panels. I think it would look good after watching the video. But i have yet to try it! |
You can only get white or black cans at Home Depots, etc....you really wanna see some crazy colors hit up Dipyourcar.com So many colors so many extras to play with!

There is some new thought that you should not dip and peel, dip and peel. Instead, dip you layers on and the last layer go a little heavier and then peel as soon as you are done applying over the tape. When PD is applied to PD the lower layers reliquify giving you a cleaner line when you peel. I haven't tried it but the dipyourcar forum boys swear by it.
Now for some awesomeness. This weekend I will be blowing the top off of the PlastiDip world when I dip my Z like my lil test ride here. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8512/8...400a612a89.jpg IMG_0281 by DufDaddy17, on Flickr It is actually a black base with a pigment called Interferene Violet in the glossifier. The pigment reflect violet in direct light otherwise the car looks black. |
DuffDaddy, you are gunna do your whole Z in that metallic dark violet??
That will be awesome! In for results. |
has anyone ever played with plasti-dip?

|

The dipyourcar guy is what I was referencing. I'm not sure if he has a new method to do hard lines.
As for the violet... It's like black cherry.... Black violet. That's pretty badass. |

looks clean, how many coats did you spray?
|
It's achieved by laying down a solid black base. Then a coat or two of clear dip that has this interference pigment mixed in (you can get a bunch of different colors beside violet). The more of the clear you put on the more pigment in place so more violet gets reflected. So you could go from a very little violet reflection to a whole lot. I would say that this is a whole lot, I'm gonna go a little less violet than you see in this pic. After you have your violet where you want it I sprayed to gloss coats. Hopefully whether permitting I can get this done over the weekend.
