The door handles hold up fine if you do enough coats...
You need to do the inside leading edge where you put pressure when pulling the handle

On that edge you need a solid 10 coats, but only on that edge, everything else... 3 coats is fine

NickTurnon 01-14-2013 04:31 PM

Handles hold up great. Just spray them properly.. I guess they can be considered "cheap". But what looks the worst is when everything else is done black and your handles are still shiny and silver..thats why i do mine.

I did the rear and front splash guards.. Thats unique and i dont think many have done it

luigi90210 01-14-2013 04:59 PM

i just did my door handles on my nismo, they look amazing and no problems so far

im planning on plasti dipping over the car with the gun metallic plastidip and leave it

oh and im getting ready to do my stock rims black

What I need is a heated garage. The day I decided to do this is was supposed to be 55 and sunny. Halfway through rain came so I wasn't able to really take my time.

I HATE WINTER, now that I am a Z owner.

If he didn't tell you he plasti-dipped it & posted this same picture in the "Paint/Powdercoat" section. You wouldn't know the difference..

I don't like using the extreme colors like neon pink for wheels. But black on yellow looks GREAT.

& dipping it is affordable, and it gives us something to do on the weekends without having to overspend$$$ at a body shop for relatively the same thing.

& you can peel it off. :happydance:

If anything its, "Fried RICER". Much more flavor and creativity.

I sprayed my alloys, it looked awesome but started peeling off within 2 days  , on the up side...I have decided to get the wheels painted Satin Black permanently

How many coats did you use? I just did my wheels 2 weeks ago and they've held up perfectly.

I used about 6 on each wheel, it had been quite cold over night despite the morning sun so maybe that was the problem?

Odd, I used about 5 coats and let it dry for 4 hours before putting the tires back on. I've noticed that cold and humidity really affect it during the application phase as well as not getting the rims completely clean before applying.

Big Worm,

White is too bright for my liking. IMHO I would throw three coats of Pearlizer over top of it to tone it down. But if you like it that's all that matters!

Gotta love plastidip. I've done my emblems, handles, and wheels. Gotta take it off the wheels so I can sell them.

Doesn't the handles feel weird with the plasti dip on them?

if you do it right, its super smooth and feels like paint

i have dipped door handles and they look OEM

RoshDawg 01-21-2013 01:09 AM

Csquared I like those stripes. Reminds me of the 3 stripe decal with the s tune kit on the hood. I think I'm going to try that out. Any tips for keeping the cuts nice and straight when removing the tape?

RoshDawg 01-21-2013 01:11 AM

I love plasti dipping. It's like painting for fun on your car and can be removed over and over again.
Off topic, I think I'm going to sharpie artwork on my mirror caps, or find someone more talented than me to do it, then put a clear bra over the mirror covers to keep it, just like that sharpie Lamborghini.

Thanks! I've been experimenting with my friend. We found out that what you want to do is pull off the tape while the paint is still wet if you want a nice hard line. So instead of the 4-5 coats with 15 mins in between to let it dry, mine was done with just 1 thick coat. Rmb to be careful because your tape is going to be wet too. So don't let it drip onto your car or smudge touch and smudge anything.

Finally, wait till your car is 100% cool before you do this. The first time I did this I did it right after i parked. The plastidip bubbled and I had to redo it.

NickTurnon 01-21-2013 09:11 AM

You can either do 1 big coat (which i wouldnt recommend)

Or

You can spray 4-5 coats and wait a couple minutes in between. Then, when you are ready to peel, respray the entire area that you want the straight line and make sure the dip gets wet again...then pull.

That way you get 4-5 solid layers, the straight line, and never bubbles.
