This Plasti Dip product is Awesome!
So I heard about this thing from other forums and from some members on this site. I thought I'd give it a try to see what the praise was. It's true, this thing is freaking awesome. It's very durable and can withstand the abuse of being on a car. It's also easy to remove if you don't want it anymore. I bought 4 cans from Home Depot for about $6 a can.
I took baby steps and blacked out my emblems with Plasti Dip. Clean and tape off the area. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00669.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00668.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00676.jpg I applied 4 coats after 10-15 minute intervals. Finished product. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00683.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00674.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00684.jpg Video: Plasti Dipped my gold wheels. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00886.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00887.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00884.jpg 6 Months Later.. That looks great. Congrats.

Looks fantastic. I know I could google it but is there a particular place everyone is buying the plasti-dip?
|
So you just sprayed all around your emblem and removed it after it dried?

i just did my emblems today, once i get new tires in im doing my rims too. ill put up pics hopefully by Thursday
|
Looks awesome:tiphat:
Seems I've found my next mini project. |
Like someone else said earlier. It's just too easy not to do. I also thought of blacking out the door handles, but I also fear that due to the moving parts, it'll peel with friction too. I'll be testing the product out on my gold rims. I'm sure that will relieve some dislikes from other members here.

how do you get the cut lines on the edges of the emblems? or does it naturally make the clean line?
also, would have been nice to see the actual spraying in the video to see how far you were, and how many passes etc. nice job |

|
Tongman, I'm thinking this is looking really nice on the MB, and I may just have to do the same on mine!
One last thing: Thanks for showing your support for the 80's by playing some Soft Cell during your most instructional video! |
nice work
|
Just don't spray your entire car like this guy and have to deal with all the problems. It removed his paint while he was removing it :ughdance: .... Maybe because of the pressure washer
Plasti-dip FAIL: What not to do |
after you sprayed the area several times.. did you have to outline the emblem with an exacto knife or razor blade before peeling off the surrounding area?..
|
It will peel right off..no knife or razor..

Did mine today. Came out great. Let's see if it holds up to the heat of AZ!

Nah, watch the video in the OP's 1st post and you'll see how it worked. |
I went and bought a can with the intention of doing this myself. I think it would look especially nice on my brilliant silver. I had it all masked off and getting ready to spray. My wife came out and said, "What are you doing? That's gonna' be ugly. I like the shiny silver." Sigh. So I didn't spray it. I think I need to grow some.

If you need to take the plasti-dip off, use a little WD40. Is the easiest way as it breaks down the dip so it can be wiped off like dust. Hope that helps someone :)
