Well I got a bit of a discount since my cousin knows a guy at the body shop. Tail lights were $100, I pulled them off the car and dropped them off at the shop to avoid some labor costs. To get the lip painted was another $100. A full bumper might be like $400-600 to paint.

Why? I have had mine done since October last year. So far so good.

I just much rather avoid it because with the constant use of the door handles I feel it will be more susceptible to wear and tear. How many coats did you use? With constant opening and closing any chipping or flaking of the plasti-dip?

I have about 5-6 coats of black and 5-6 of red on each handle. No chipping or flaking. Inside of the handle is starting to come a little loose, but I plan on trimming that off and re-spraying inside of the handle really good. I had overlooked that space when I did them. I should have pics of them in this thread.

I'm really tempted to do my door handles now to match the wheels.

haggomyeggo 03-22-2012 12:23 PM

Anyone watching this thread plasti dipped the sport wheels.

I want to see what they look like before I consider powdercoating them

I'm worried about getting it even with all the crevices on the sport wheels

There was a local member who came to one of our meets with plasti dipped sport wheels. They looked pretty nice.

What color Z. I have a red one. I did the fangs and rear. Turned out pretty good. Considering attempting the wheels. Kinda want to do it on my parents white surburban first...
Storm trooper that thing out....

It was a blue one I think. Doing the wheels was a a lot easier than I thought, I think you should go for it. Just remember to get the inside edges of the spokes too.

haggomyeggo 03-22-2012 02:47 PM

I have like 2.5 cans left. Might need more?

Took me about one can to do like 5 coats on two wheels. The SP Rays are a bit bigger, but depending on how many coats you want to do that may be enough. At most you would probably need like one more can.

Worried about doing the front emblem on my Z. The front bumper has a clear bra on it and I have not found anyone that says if pastidip stains or alters the clear bra in any way.

Obviously, I will be peeling it off the clear bra but I do not want it to leave a stain.

Go to where you had the clear bra installed and see if they can give you a scrap to try out the Plasti-Dip on. I'm sure if you explain what you want to do they will understand.

You could try putting some painter's tape on the clear bra before you start spraying so that none of it goes on the clear bra itself.

Personally I dont see why it would mess up clear bra. Its just spray rubber. Im not positive but I would assume you would be fine.

It did not come off easily, it broke off at the edges which caused me to spend a couple of hours scrubbing it off in tight spots and I'm probably going to have to take the handles off this weekend to get into some of the small cracks/spaces. My suggestion if you want to make your door handles black, just spend the extra money and have a professional paint/powercoat them.

Did it leave any kind of residue or fogginess when u took it off after 3months?or was it just hard to get off?

robtrink 03-23-2012 07:37 AM

Thanks for the helpful information. I taped off most of the clear bra and the front hamburger came out good. There are little pieces of black plastic that got caught on the edge of the clear bra but for the most part I was able to get it all out.

Thanks again!

Thinking about doing my door handles and emblems either tonight or sometime this weekend. For those of you who have plasti dipped the door handles, did you take them off the car or just spray them while they were still on the car?

I'm wondering this too.

Somewhere there is pics on this. Guys have left them on the car and just taped everything off.

Yeah I saw that when looking back in the thread and that's what I'm going to do. Going to do them in gunmetal like the wheels, but I'm gonna try putting the glossifier on top to give it a more glossy finish and hopefully a bit smoother texture. The plan is for 4 coats of black, 3 coats of silver metallizer, and then 2-3 coats of the glossifier.

Gonna order a kit... lol

Alexshen1 03-24-2012 01:37 PM

dont, i ordered from them 3 weeks ago and never heard a word from them, ofc i didnt get my stuff neither

Alexshen1 03-24-2012 01:47 PM

nvm about that they just responded to my questions

First i was not getting any delivery status from them and i sent 2 emails to them, no reply. its been 3 weeks til today they finally replied to me on youtube and i got their phone #, which i just called. Dude was cool about it saying how he understand the situation when im not getting what i ordered, and we resolved the problem.

Overall dipyourcar.com is very kind to customers, i would recommend them for sure. Prices are fare as well.

b1adesofcha0s 03-24-2012 02:38 PM

The rain ruined my plasti dipped door handles, I'll have to re-do them. :(

Emblems turned out good though. I'll take some pics once it stops raining.

TonyBPD 03-24-2012 02:53 PM

I had no problem with dipyourcar.com. I would definitely order from them again. If anyone orders a custom color (non aerosol) I would get a few more of spray cartridges.

The kit comes with three but I went heavy on my coats and had to buy another.

b1adesofcha0s 03-24-2012 03:08 PM

Also had a good experience with dipyourcar.com, just having a little issue with a shipping refund they owe me. I forgot to order everything I needed at first so immediately placed a second order and asked them to combine the two orders and ship them together. They said they would refund me the difference in shipping cost and I have yet to get a refund or hear from them about it.

Ok, so I have been reading with fourm and decided that I would try and do some work with Plasti-Dip myself....I AM IN LOVE!!!

I have a couple of places, I might re-tape and spray some more to get rid of a little imperfections but, really unless you are looking you can't see it.

It is so addicting man! It's worse if you start using the plasti dip enhancers. Then it's not just what else can you plasti dip, but how to do it. So many customization possibilities to choose from :eekdance:

SPOHN 03-27-2012 07:15 PM

Wait till next week guys. I have the Shine Auto kit coming in this week and I'm going to plasti dip the hole thing. As you may know I track my a car a lot know and the front fangs have been plasti dipped. So while the front clip (OEM paint) still gets sand blasted from the track debri the plastic dipped section is holding up great. So what better and cheap way to maintain my kit from debri.
