When you guys plasti dip your rims, do you guys do the inside too or just the face/spokes of the rim?

NickTurnon 12-24-2012 06:09 PM

Just the rims..

If you spray the dip with the wheels left on your car, your bound to get dip inside the wheels. Its all good though, it gets black inside there anyways.

Yeah but I think to get a more full effect I would spray inside as well, it only takes a couple more mins to shoot it inside with a couple more sprays. You just cant do it with the wheels on the car thats all.:tiphat:

What color did you do the rims? Looks like gunmetal grey.

NOFATCHX 12-25-2012 06:45 PM

How's this hold up to road wear? ESP on front bumper... Bugs, rocks etc. don't wanna use if gonna ding up after few days

steve216 12-26-2012 01:29 AM

I plastidiped a large amount of my last car, it turned out great and lasted without a problem for over a year.

nmjaxx9 12-26-2012 01:38 AM

Yeah if it does chip, just take it off and re apply. :icon17:

///PureSwank 12-26-2012 08:22 PM

for just the fangs? or the whole bumper :icon17:

I think you should be fine with 1. :tiphat:

chknhawk 12-26-2012 09:43 PM

Just an FYI update. In doing a little more research I have come to the conclusion that prepping any area beforehand will make the application that much stronger and last a lot longer. Some of the more recent dipyourcar videos show his special spray. I think this is where a lot of rim problems are coming from. Good luck! Happy holidays

Do they make a gray/light gray? Too lazy to google myself. Got a mag-BLK z thinking of alternating that area and rear to lighter opposite of the lighter color Zs and the black fangs. Too 'ricey'?

I dont think its ricey, and most plasti dip after dried becomes gray, thats why you have the option of spraying glossifier, if you do you get a more shiny black. :tiphat:

Was thinking almost a silver set of fangs in center area of the bumpers on the magnetic black car; plans are to get a light silver set of katskinz as well. I may photoshop it later to see what exactly it would look like.

Geoff-R 12-28-2012 11:14 AM

Has anyone used this to do the inside of their headlights? I'm thinking of going the LED route with mine and I'm not 100% sure if I want to go black on the inside of the housings or not yet.

Pureswank, just curious. I'm planning on doing this to my 370 as well. How'd you get around the lock and unlock buttons on the door? Wouldn't the Plasti Dip get inside that small opening on the button? How'd you prevent it from getting inside the door handle?

NickTurnon 01-01-2013 07:02 PM

Zell... The plasti dip molds around the cuts and crevices. You just need to try it and you will understand. You can even peel the unlock/lock buttons off.

I know it might be nerve wrecking if its your first time around. It was mine as well. Dont be afraid, trust me on this one. Just spray it evenly. One coat at a time. About 10 minutes between each one. First coat wont look nice because it wont cover the complete surface. But after your third and fourth coat you should have them blacked out. I even sprayed the interior side of the handle. Youll be just fine. Spray it good.

///PureSwank 01-02-2013 03:42 AM

Here is the rear as well.

Im intrested in seeing how long this holds up on the drivers side door handle as I would like to do it as well. if it doesnt last long then i might just take the time to have the handles painted with automotive paint.

NickTurnon 01-03-2013 09:37 PM

Mine lasts 6 months or so. Then I just peel it off and redo it again

samb03 01-09-2013 04:57 PM

plasti-dipped my rims

Got the wheels mounted as it was getting dark and it has been raining today so no pics for now.

I was just saying, the murdered out rims on a black cherry car look sweet. Most of the the instructions say it takes 3-4 cans to do a set of wheels. I don't know if I went too thin or if the sport rims don't have that much surface area, but it only took me 1.5 cans for the wholes set.

I thought fellow PlatiDippers needed a thread dedicated to our creativity. Post pics of any projects you have tried, fails too, so the rest of us can learn from your mad genius.

I just got the Pearlizer so I thought I'd try to "hide" my nose badge on my Pearl Z.

2 coats White, 3 coats Pearl, 1 coat Gloss:

Blue Blaze on the side turn signal. I did a horrible job with this as you can see, I will revisit in the Spring when it warms up.

I was gonna do the white on the emblems. Now I'm not sure if I'm feeling it. Might just try to see in person. I did try to do my nismo wheel logos with no luck. I couldn't even cut the plasti dip with an exacto knife.

Did the grille area and spoiler edge to hide some rock chips. I'm very happy with the result.

DufDaddy 01-14-2013 12:27 PM

I'm thinking about redoing the whole nose with white and Pearlizer. So many chips in my nose it makes me sick when I detail. The color match is close enough that I don't think it would be too noticable.

meh on the black door handles. makes the car look cheap, imo.

maybe on a black car, but i would use real paint instead.

boilermaker1 01-14-2013 03:41 PM

Red nissan emblem looks pretty good, what I wonder with the door handles is how well it holds up since you're constantly touching it.
