...yeah I watched that the other day. Fonzie whipped up some more dip godliness for sure. I think they turned out awesome.

Just ordered the metalizer wheel kit from their website. Going to do my wheels in that gunmetal (black+ silver metalizer) color and then do my roof gloss black.

SPOHN 03-10-2012 02:40 PM

Oh yea. I'm going to do my FJ in this.

My_third_Z 03-10-2012 02:51 PM

I just ordered three cans of the glossifier. I'm going to try it on my roof for that glossy black look.

wilsonp 03-10-2012 09:08 PM

Maybe you could try taking a photo of the emblem, printing it to scale and the cutting a mask out of it - so you'd have the perfect guide.

I like the result and would probably try if I didn't have a black car :)

I need a little help with blacking out my fangs. I did the rear valance yesterday and it came out awesome. I put it on in a thick coat and while it was wet I pulled the tape and it left a crisp line.
Now for the front I tried the same but when I pulled the tape it had dried enough that it pulled some plasti dip off with it. Now I have to clean it off and start all over again.

I am looking for some tips for doing the fangs.

Should I just put three thin coats, let it dry fully and use a new razor blade to lightly cut the plasti dip?
Or is there a better way?

Thanks

About to try this stuff on my emblems today now that the weather is nice...As pathetic as it may sound, I'm scared to death lol! Even though I've read all the posts and watched the DIY video there's just something about spraying black paint on my white car thats a bit nerve-racking! Ha!

Just make sure you mask generously and you should be fine. :tiphat:

You can accomplish the same finish, if not better, with Rustoleum's Metallizer paints. I realize you can eventually peel this stuff off, but that's a lot of prep and spraying for something that isn't going to be permanent.

Ok so I finished 4 coats on the front and rear emblems. I think they came out pretty good. There were a couple small spots on the top of the burgers where the paint was very light and there were a couple silver specs shining through...but I touched them up with a brush afterwards. How easily is this stuff to peel off the emblems if my OCD makes me want to redo them down the road? Anyways, here a couple pics. Sorry for the crappy quality, it's raining so I had to take them in my garage.

TonyBPD 03-18-2012 01:53 PM

Just finished my Avantgardes in gunmetal. Pics coming up soon

I'm sure your right, but the beauty of the plasti-dip is you ca maintain the OEM finish when it comes time to sell your ride (should you ever sell it, that is).

**Waiting on new center caps**

I think it turned out pretty nice. My wheels are black and I'm tired of them so this should hold me over for a bit.

Alchemy 03-19-2012 06:50 AM

My buddy did the wheels on his Mini Cooper this weekend. Cant wait to see how they came out. Also interested to see how it holds up.

I did the fangs and rear this weekend. I need more pics but here's a quick one I took
Turned out great. I'm very happy with it. Anyone else have the plastidip sticking to the tape when you took off the tape? I had to be careful

There is gloss on them. Hard to tell in the pics though. These wheels took a ton of coats. Alot of spaces to get covered.

I did four. Probably would've been ok with three.

That looks great. Plasti-Dip is the perfect product for the fangs and rear valance.

Thanks and I agree. I just wish my intercooler wasn't crooked. I'll have to work on that next week.

b1adesofcha0s 03-20-2012 04:40 PM

Thanks guys! I'd say it's like a darker version of the 40th Anniversary wheel color.

Daaaaayum your ride is looking :yum: :postwhore: :leghump:

I think you may have swayed me over to the dark side on the Evo-R Front Lip! It looks really great without being too aggressive!

Thanks man! You'll love the Evo-R lip, that's the same reason I bought it. Just be careful with driveways, especially if your Z is lowered. I always have to go in at a sharp angle to avoid scraping it.

Did you blackout your taillights with VHT NightShade or got them tinted with a film? Rims look good btw

Got the tail lights painted by a body shop. Had them tinted with vinyl earlier, but it kept bubbling so I got a refund for that. Thanks

yeah please explain...did it not break the seal the first time you used the handle?thats why i havent done it yet because i thought it would

akaaronkatz 03-22-2012 08:17 AM

I had it on my door handles for 3 months. I had put it on them before and had taken it off after a week which was no problem but when it was left on for 3 months it was incredibley difficult to remove. It did not come off easily, it broke off at the edges which caused me to spend a couple of hours scrubbing it off in tight spots and I'm probably going to have to take the handles off this weekend to get into some of the small cracks/spaces. My suggestion if you want to make your door handles black, just spend the extra money and have a professional paint/powercoat them.
