so i'll post the question here.

whats is the best mount to use/buy to get some footage from my rear bumper. people continually keep begging me for actual driving footage of my exhaust insted of standing rev's.

got the gopro just dont know which mount is best.

also anyone have suggestions for a external mic setup to capture the sound properly.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey lazy bones,
Use the suck cup. For a mike. I got mine from amazon. You have to get an adapter too. Put a BIG piece of foam over the mike to cut down on wind noise. Also get a polarized len too. Helps with the white-out that you may get from going into and out of shade, and bright sunlight.

Go with the fat Gecko. I use it all the time and it has some serious suction.

http://goo.gl/2Nf0hs

also i found the best placement for exhaust sound is on the back glass at the bottom facing back. the Mic is not over saturated with sound and gives you a good reference to what the exhaust sounds like.

Good. I tape the mike between the tips under the plate. I use a piece of foam that's about 3" in diameter over the mike. Also you will have to get an extension cord for the mike. I got one from Staples.

those are great for higher speeds but I dont think would be necessary for 0-90.

here is an example Mosquito Ridge Run - YouTube

Also make sure you use the open back that comes with the gopro

I made my own with some packing foam from work. I get wind noise as slow as about 20 mph. I modded a waterproof housing so that I can plug in the mike adapter. Used a dremel to cut a hole in the side of the housing. After I did this. Gopro came out with a housing with the holes already cut out.

Default Carbon Fiber mount

Just thought I would share the carbon fiber mount I made. Not sure if anyone has made one like this or not. I got my idea from looking at another forum DIY headrest camera mount: Build thread / How to.. - page 1 - Random Chat - MK5 Golf GTI

First here are some pics of the mount:

DSC06299.JPG

DSC06297.JPG

I got the various parts needed from home depot, ebay and amazon.

You will need:

1 x Carbon fiber rod : Amazon.com: ARRIS 3K Roll Wrapped 100% Pure Carbon Fiber Tube 23mm*25mm*500mm(2PCS) Glossy Surface: Toys & Games

1x GoPro bar mount:Amazon.com : Oumers Bike Handlebar Mount Motorcycle Seatpost Pole Mount Bicycle Mount Roll Bar Mount with Long Screw for Gopro HD, Hero 4, Hero 3+, Hero3, Hero 2, Hero HD, GoPro Camera accessories : Camera & Photo

2x plastic end caps (I have a bunch of spares PM me if you want some): 8 Pcs Black 25mm Dia Blanking End Caps Covers Tube Insert Bung | eBay

2x small U Bolts

2x Wing nuts

Everything is really easy to make and the only hard part is drilling the holes through the carbon tube so they line up perfectly on both sides. Luckily I found an article that shows how to drill a tube without a drill press. Very good tip since I ruined my first carbon tube. Tech Tips: Drill a Hole in a Pipe Without a Drill Press | Radio magazine

Here is a sample vid that I made with my Virb XE using the mount and an OBDII reader. Hope you guys enjoy.
