Carbon Fiber DriveShaft?

Do all years have the Carbon Fiber Driveshaft? I have a 12 and have one just wondering if this was the case prior years.

Do all years have the Carbon Fiber Driveshaft? I have a 12 and have one just wondering if this was the case prior years.

Yep, they all have it, and the radiator support brackets are carbon fiber composite too!

I actually weighed the carbon fiber driveshaft while it was out of the car - it's heavier than I thought it would be! IIRC, it was around 14-15 lbs or so. Which isn't heavy, granted, but that must make it strong, right?

its not all carbon either. if im not mistaken its a plastic shaft wrapped in the composite material.

I was reading that there are quite a few companies that offer full carbon driveshafts.... I wonder if its a worthwhile upgrade..... Less rotational mass=better power transfer to wheels...... Looks like you could pick one up for about $1500

The inertia required to spin our driveshaft is pretty low, it isn't like a wheel or a flywheel. It would be similar to trying to improve horsepower by reducing the weight of your brakes. I don't see any notable gains from what we already have.

Spending $1500 to shave a few pounds off the driveshaft most likely wont be worth it. I'd doubt you'd even notice much at all.

Spend your money on a lightweight clutch/flywheel instead. You will definitely feel that.

You'd be surprised: Dyno testing light weight rotors?

Granted, this was an Evo with AWD, but with the CZP 2-piece front rotor kit saving ~8 pounds per front corner, I could see some potential speed increase. For the rear wheels, I think only Racingbrake rotors would work, but whatever.
