Looking at purchasing an oil cooler fo the Z…. Only thing i am unsure of is should i get the mocal or setrab core?………I don’t mind spending the $ if needed but ok if i do not need to…..
She is street driven mostly, few track days a year and out at the drag strip on a monthly basis…. Not sure if it matters but throwing it out there.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Since you do some track and live in the south. Get the FI 34 row cooler kit. It has everything you need. If you had an older Z. The Z1 kit would be an option too.

I have the Z1 19 Row oil cooler with the setrab core. In my opinion Setrab > Mocal.

I don't track my Z, I do however, push it, and the 19 row keeps it at 100 MAX even when I am abusing it spirited driving. If you are going to track and go to drag strips, get a 34 Row, I mean you are also in Florida so the heat won't help. Make sure you get a thermostatic sandwich plate as well. Again, you are in Florida I don't think you will need one but it's better to have than not have.

Do something right once and sleep sound, no point in regrets.

Default 19 rows and a vented Hood here.

I have a 19 row setrab core oil cooler with a thermostated sandwich plate on my 2014 Nismo Z. The lines to and from the oil cooler rad are 10AN, so they flow pretty freely. The Oil cooler is a must if you track the car like I do and live in Texas. Also letting the heat out of the Engine bay is a must. I now have a vented hood that does the trick.

Street driving, my oil temps any day of the week stay right with the coolant temps. Happiness there is cooler oil.

On track I see 235-240 without the vented hood, once I finish to cooldown lap at the end of the session the oil temp is right back in sync with the coolant temp reading. I just added the vented hood recently and am looking forward to a track day at ECR the last weekend in September. I'll update this again with the difference after the track day.

Good luck in your Oil Cooler hunt.

There are a lot of quality oil cooler kits out there to choose from. Installing an oil cooler on your Z is one of the best single upgrades you will ever do. Any of the core brands can possibly fail. I believe the Setrab core has good overall reliability. If you see any track days with your Z I would get the 34 row.

For reference Fl here as well. Used to see 240* on the highway at 80mph dead of summer with all OE '10. Now 27 row setrab with thermostatic plate, had to cover 8 rows so in effect its a 19 row and struggle to get to 180* during the same normal driving. NEVER Seen higher than 210 no matter how hard I push it as soon as the rain hits 160*. I don't track.

Vented hood sounds intriguing. Got a pic? Or better yet, where did you get it?

Hood vents are good for reducing engine temps by about 10deg~

They do have downsides. The let everything from the outside into the engine bay, dirt, leaves, rain, soap(carwash). So they can be a bit annoying too if you want a clean dry engine.

How'd the install go? Was it a PITA? I see an install of the exact config you got in my future.

Did you find that the instructions were as detailed as they needed to be and covered all the bases?
