The dealer has to hook up the computer to the car and get the car to approximately 110F then they have a nifty little tool that they plug in to your transmission oil pan
Nissan's "nifty little tool" is not necessary

OP, all you need is a way to check the transmission temperature. The trans fluid will expand as it is heated. Once it reaches the proper temp, the fluid level should be even with the level check plug. Ideally you should fill it slightly more than full so that the excess drains out when it reaches temp. This way you know it's at the correct level.
