What causes these to break are micro welds developed between the oil pump gears and the crank shaft. This becomes apparent more and more over time and is not caused by over revving the motor. We have several customers who have shattered their oil pump gears with factory rev limits. With that said the above failure was within factory specs. Also with corresponding mods the motor does not run out of steam over 7500rpms this is very evident in builds such as 1slow370 where he revs to 8300rpm on the daily.

So please unless you have factual information to add to the conversation or are willing to be constructive to the conversation I would ask you respect our moderators wishes and our threads. We do not want the unfounded negativity you have brought us and others in the past in our threads.

Thank you
And I goofed and quoted the wrong post.

I don't go past redline so hopefully never an issue for me but I am curious what are these engines balanced up to? Seems may be fixing one issue just to have another? Regardless of what they "can" make power up to I wonder what they safely make power up to.

We have seen the issue on stock cars. As stated before the issue is related to the material and design of the factory units. We just pulled a motor with 6k miles and already had significant wear and signs of micro-welding. You don't have to raise the RPM limit to experience a failure. we have redesigned the gear tooth to increase performance and strength as well as changed the contact points with the crank to prevent microwelding. This will give you a bulletproof product under stock conditions and is rated up to 10k rpms. All gears are certified and come with their own blueprint documentation.

Surprising that there have been so many failing pumps at stock revs and so few miles, but no one seems to be posting about them. I know not everyone who owns a Z is on here but you'd think the people that autocross regularly or track would have posted issues with the stock limiter. The only posts on here with failures have been those with up'd rev limiters.

As you stated not everyone posts about their failures. the unit we posted with a broken pump is a forum member here, but chose not to post for whatever reason. In respect to his privacy we will not disclose his username unless he feels comfortable chiming in. A lot of people dont see it as a problem until the gears break on them and then its like how the hell did this happen? not all the posts here of broken gears are of raised RPM limits...

Again micro-welding can and has happened under stock normal loads, this is a fact.

We have seen it first hand and so have several other shops. Several shops have seen it as a great product and will be carrying these items here in the next few weeks for their customers.

Out of all the folks on here who will be purchasing these gears, who here will be revving past 8 grand ( either it be drag racing, 1/2 mile racing, or road racing) and for the folks that do will you still retain the oem valve-train or upgrading to handle to higher RPM's?

UPDATE:

So we had the opportunity to put the first car on the dyno with our Oil Pump Gears. As many of you are aware a fellow member had a mishap with a certain dealer earlier this year that caught his car on fire. Well he sent us his car to fix the electrical issues and to do some minor upgrades.

This is a stock motor car in every way shape and form. The car is running an older GEN1 6266 single turbo kit with ID1000 and walbro 255 and a single 3" exhaust. We decided to upgrade his Oil pump gears and upgrade to the RJM GTR intake manifold conversion. The outcome was AWESOME!

Given this car is a 91oct tuned car our power limits, timing advance and rpms had to be limited. However, we were successful at running back to back 8100rpm runs gaining nearly 40 whp and similar torque over the previous setup. The car made power up until 8100rpms and we stopped there due to the limitations of the 91 oct.

Our final numbers were done on a "heartbreaker" dyno that is notorious for reading low. We started tuning earlier in the morning focusing on his driveability tune and by the time we got to power runs it was mid day and the temps in the dyno booth reached 110*F and coupled with the high humidity in florida we had our work cut out for us! Given more favorable conditions I believe we could see more power. The numbers were as follows:

8100RPM Limit
542whp
401ft/lbs
9psi waste gate pressure
91 oct

If you visit our facebook page you can get a behind the scenes video of the last dyno run. We will be publishing a full feature video of the car soon but this is great news for even the 91 octane customers.
