Default Tinting Tail Lights

Hello, I got my 2009 370z Sports Package tuesday of last week. The first modification that I am going to do is tint my tail lights and add sound deadening to the rear compartment. I took off the tail lights, removed all interior pieces and prepped the tail lights. I wet sanded with 1500 gritt paper to simply take the shine away and give the paint something to stick to. I washed the tail lights with rubbing alcohol and then taped them off. Here are some pictures! I will update with pictures of the finished product.

Theres a TON of videos on youtube on how to do this, that I recommend watching, because I tried doing this on a previous car.... and it did not come out good.

Have you tried wet sanding and then adding mcguires wax? Seems to work pretty good. I have done a few sets of tail lights before. Here is the process I follow:

1. Remove tails
2. Wet sand with 1500 gritt and a little soap
3. Tape off
4. Clean with rubbing alcohol.
5. Add "X" amount of coats of VHT
6. Add "X" amount of clear coat
7. Wet sand with 1500 gritt and a little soap
8. At Mcguires wax to get the desired shine.

Why tape them off? Am I the only one that wants a light tint on the entire light, with no strip?

Sub'd for final product!

I know that in the pictures it looks like they are a different darkness, however they are not. The lighting was different for each and I only had my iphone camera.

How I did mine was just like you except I had cleared them with automotive clear. Not rattle can clear and there as shinny as my paint. That's the only way to clear them I wed sanded in between my last to VHT coats to get the pits out. Came out perfect.
Good luck cheers!

Thanks man! The taping off was the most difficult part. After that it's a breeze. Let me know if you need any help.
