Brad! Good idea...I was actually looking at that yesterday and planned to do something similar. Seems a few short lengths of slit 6mm silicone will do the trick. Having had a stainless line saw through a power steering hard pipe once I know what you mean! As an expansion of that idea, I think laying a bead of clear silicone inside the split tubing would be super clean and alleviate the need for Zip ties while still holding the "Grommet" in place..

No....There is no change in the level of the oil in the sump as the additional 1 qt. is carried in the lines and Cooler core. Nothing has really changed...You are just providing an additional cooled path for the oil to flow from Pump>to Cooler>to Filter>to Engine>Back to the sump

i bought a long oil cooler (according to baker precision, they're the same as tru-cool) years ago for my 240sx, but lost my car in an accident before i could install it.

Long / Tru Cool Oil Coolers

according to one of the guys at baker, the setrab uses a fin design "a lot better" for cooling. the tru-cool/ long is sturdier, but not as good at cooling.

he didnt sound that convincing....

what do you guys think?

Not sure really what you're asking, but I will say, after running this cooler for 1+ months, that it delivers pretty much all you'll need on the street. My temps run at 195-210 degrees under all conditions..

What's the highest ambient temp you had in NC so far while you've been running hard?

It's been over 100 here for the last week or two, and I'm wondering what kind of cooling I'd get...

in 90 degree temps I haven't been able to push it beyond 215 degrees..

and down here in Atlanta, during rush hour stop and go traffic the other day, I hit 255! This is definitely on my to do list when I get time.

i just wanted to ask whether you think the setrab coolers are significantly better than the tru-cool. i'm planning on tracking my car, but i dont want to go through the hassle/ expense of ordering another cooler if this one is sufficient.

also, racerparts wholesale is out of the mocal sandwich plates. do you think this one would work? does it have the right specs?

I don't think the temp deltas will be more than a few degrees actually (from seeing data reported here). If you don't need the thermo function than any Plate will work. That one linked should do the job..

No Vinyl kit....I had some accident damage that meant a new front Bumper. I just had them NOT PAINT the fang area....

does having a cooler change the oil change procedure in any way? I'm thinking the oil stuck in the cooler/hose won't be drained out during an oil change. Can you explain the concept of this? Thanks.
