Hi, this is a dumb question maybe. Trying to rationalize this. Without a cabin filter, where does that dirt, particles, bacteria, whatever it filters exactly go? The reason I ask

Hi, this is a dumb question maybe. Trying to rationalize this. Without a cabin filter, where does that dirt, particles, bacteria, whatever it filters exactly go? The reason I ask is well I have an 09 and I am going to do this ASAP, I am sure the previous owner did not know about this. According to the maintenance schedule it is supposed to be change every 15,000 miles. I am at 56k miles. Where did that funk go? Thanks
