Best way to remove soot from exhaust tips?

I used to use iron cut and it worked great (don't breathe the fumes!) but it's no longer available. I tried the sonax deep wheel cleaner and it didn't work

Suggestions?

WD -40 and a bug sponge worked on mine; bought it second hand and it was a bit dirty/carbon caked.

So i'm going to do a side by side comparison. The guys on the Adams forums swear by "Barkeeper's Friend" cleaning powder. I miss toxic/possibly dangerous Iron Cut from Korea. Soak tips in that for 5 minutes and the soot just wiped off.

SOS pads work great too but be careful with the elbow grease.
