Default Red Sport Calipers for 2012

So, I guess this falls into the category of can't leave well enough alone.

I have a 2012 with Sport Package and want to change out to Red Calipers. Don't want to paint. So my thought is to purchase new Red Calipers from Nissan and change them out. I really don't want to change to a different brand even though they would probably be at a higher performance level. Really, this is just a cosmetic thing.

Q. Can I just purchase the 2013 red housing? or do I need to get the entire working caliper. How much do you think they go for.

Q. What do you think the chances are in posting in the WTB section, Red 2013 Sport Calipers wanted.

Q. I have consider just powder coating, how will this hold up? How does one get the decals for the caliper to put back on after powder coating.

Q. Do I have to disassemble the caliper or is this best left to the powder coater or someone else that knows what their doing.

I am in central Jersey, so if someone has recommendations on where to go to get this done I'd appreciated the info.

Thanks everyone, if you have read this far.

Factory calipers are powder coated. Also you would need to purchase the whole caliper. Chances are slim to none for buying those red ones on the wtb section in my opinion. As long as you inform them that they could be subject to high temp there shouldn't be a problem with getting them done.

Powdercoat by Mike. $300.00 plus shipping. Plus you get a choice of colors. I have 6 trackdays on mine with no problems. The calipers from the dealer will be a couple of bucks. $$$

I went with candy red.

I hear you regarding mike, how long did it take and did you just send the whole caliper and he dissembled it as needed before powder coating?

Did Mike replace the decals?

How much time to remove and reinstall the calipers, bleed brakes etc.

Love the color and thanks for the reply.

Mike DOES replace the decal and can change it to any design you want and in almost any color.

As for paint vs PC, paint chips easier, PC is thinner but more durable.
And if you're tracking, PC isn't always the way to go. At 400-600 degrees the powder becomes soft, and can burn.
(Hell, even Mike's wheels got discolored after he beat them at the track, and NO, this doesn't not mean Mike's work isn't too notch, his work is amazing, it's just the nature of the beast)

If I'm not mistaken, Mike has some swap sets.

I sent Mike the whole caliper. He tears them apart, and put them back together again. He can put on any decal you like. It's about a 3 day turn around. As for the time to install the calipers and bleed them. That depends on how much skill you have working on cars.

Like DEpointfive0 wrote, PC is not good for tracking, at least on our cars with how hot they get, but that also varies with how hard you use them. But it will hold up much better than paint in every other circumstance.

I do completely disassemble, coat, sticker and reassemble them. Its 350 for base members, 300 for premium members and shipping is 30.

I have one core set, though there is almost always someone waiting for them, so its not a quick process. If you send yours, I turn them around in two days though.

If you have the cash I would recommend buying a set and having them powdercoated and then shipped to you so you can swap in one day then sell yours to some 370z or 350z members and get your cash back.

I did this with my 350z and it was by far the best option.
I had powdercoated calipers and they were by far stronger then paint.

If you do track you may want to consider a different color then red, if the calipers get heated up too much they may discolor (turn orange/pink) and be much more noticeable then say a blue, purple etc.

Lastly when you do this be sure to keep them cleaned so they keep a nice look to them, I clean my calipers with the same high quality micro fiber towels and PH balanced soap once every 2 weeks or sooner if I drove the car hard.

Appreciate your post. I can buy the Nissan calipers from Fontana for less than 1K in Red, however, I just looked at Mike's post and he might be able to send me a core set, then I can swap them out. Maybe even take them to my brake guy, since they would have the replacements right away, so I don't screw anything up in the installation. Also 330 bucks vs 1K and then have to sell the old calipers makes more sense.

I would assume that this would be a good time to go with upgraded stainless lines and high performance fluid.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I forgot to put that there is also a 650 core charge, to ensure I get the calipers back, but if you put it on a credit card and install them quickly, it is usually refunded before your statement even comes in.

It would be a good time to make the fluid and line swap too. It shouldn't add any extra labor.

Well researching what your calipers would sell for may be a good start or someone can chime in... I assume you could get like 600 bucks for the calipers, so it may be apples to apples for out of pocket expense BUT Mike powdercoating them is a higher quality paint then regular spray paint....

So your sold on red? Why not go with a more exotic brake caliper color? What color is your Z?
