The newer cars with steer by wire do it for fuel mileage. It takes the power steering pump off the motor. One less thing for the motor to spin. Pretty

The newer cars with steer by wire do it for fuel mileage. It takes the power steering pump off the motor. One less thing for the motor to spin. Pretty soon, the A/C compressor with be off the motor too. Just wait until the 48 volt wiring harness becomes common. A couple of high end cars already have it.
