If you want something similar to the Nismo wheels you can get the new Volk Te37 ULTRA. Its the same beautiful design but smaller lip and more concaved vs the old te37 which was less concaved (and depending on the offset more lip too.)

I'd go with satin + CF center cap

SSR CV01 are very similar to the HRE. I like the way the spokes are on this wheel more than the HRE.

But SSR wheels are no where near the quality and strength as HRE. Ive seen race cars run them and been to their open houses. Comparing SSR to HRE is like comparing Honda with a ZONDA. Even volk wheels are not up to the level of quality as HRE, close but not quite there.

I think the guy from the tire shop is going to have an orgasm when they arrive. BTW, I finally made the decision to go with the 19" Satin Black 303M. I am going with stock size so I can swap wheels with my OEM Rays if I eventually start tracking my Z.

Not that I'm saying HREs aren't any good but SSRs are also run on race cars.. Sooooo they are probably just as strong..

There are a bunch of differences when it comes to wheels and generally I would say most people the look really is the only thing that matters.

However, if your one of those people that are really into performance some things make the small differences.

First, Volk/Rays has one of the most impressive build processes I have ever seen for a wheel. Unlike a HRE/Forgeline they forged the wheel center into its desired shape. This has a few advantages as it allows for an extremely strong spoke design. This is because you never have to cut across the crystalline structure of the aluminum. However, they are limited on designs so weight/strength really isn't improved in this process. They seem reluctant to do any additional machining beyond the original forging.

The Second thing about forging the center of the wheel and then attaching the inner and outer rim shells is that you end up with no spoke support on the outer lip. You will also find a lot of designs they use like the TE-37 have a nice 45 before it attaches to the rim-shell making it much more likely to flex. There is very little difference between most of the volk monoblock designs and a 3pc wheel when it comes to stiffness as a result.

I don't know alot about the SSR process but its seems like it wouldn't have the same strength as a high pressure forged billet. I really do not know much beyond the fact they don't use a traditional forging process.

When you look at an HRE or Forgline 1pc design almost all of them bring the spoke flush to the outter edge of the wheel. Which some people don't find as attractive but if your looking for outside lip you can always run a 3pc design. The real advantage to the 1pc is that you get this extra stiffness.

Scratch the carbon fiber center caps. We thought they were a $150 upcharge. They are...per wheel.

They are nice, but that just seems excessive. I am an idiot, I will probably get them later

HRE = prestige. Is that what you're after? Less price for Volks and get more for your money.

I already have the best looking Rays for the 370Z IMO! It will be nice to have two sets of good rims. First thing I will do is get them repaired and powder coated. Maybe get a set of track tires

Since I wasn't sure which center cap that I would be getting with my wheels on order, I called up HRE to see. Customer service picked up the phone immediately, and then I was transferred to a voice mailbox. Two minutes later my call was returned and Antonio had no problem switching from the red, white and blue to the black and silver caps. I also requested if they could send me some pictures of the wheels during production, which was no problem, and which I will share here.

I have heard that their customer service is excellent, which was very evident during this encounter.

Feeling pretty good with my decision to go with them.

Stay tuned!

My HREs have arrived!

They shipped chrome lug nuts instead of black ones (which they are overnighting), but since my car isn't blacked out (yet) and I have those nice shiny Z1 rotors and silver/black center caps I might just use the chrome.

Later when I color match all the chrome pieces to the wheels I will switch over to the black lug nuts.

I won't have these installed for a couple of weeks since we still usually have snow well into April.

With Michelin PSS's on these I am going to get the exact look that I wanted. I am giddy with excitement for both
