It's not about taking sides nor is it a competition. Given my novice level of track driving, the reality is that any of these tires will probably out perform my driving. This is how I talked myself out of coilovers.

I'm taking this post, enlarging the words and printing them out. I am then hanging them on my wall. Forever.

This will save me a fortune.

I also wouldn't disregard that Car and Driver review. I used to work with Spencer Geshwein, the driver/tester in that review, and he is a very talented driver, with many, many years as a test driver with Michelin. He has also won the One Lap of America, so he has talent (and knows how to evaluate tires). When I worked at Ford, I remember when they first signed a contract with Hankook - nobody could believe the manufacturing capabilities and performance of the tires (not that this translates to a good track tire). Since then, I have been open to Hankooks, plainly due to their uniformity and quality capabilities.

BTW, I have no experience with these tires, but have been looking at purchasing them.

You are exactly right. You will eventually push your car past it's tires limits with experience, but with any street tire, it will get greasy after time. That is what race tires are for.

Hell, I have taken my Daily Acura TL Type-S with Michelin MXM4s out there, it did okay with them.

The Tire DB - Posts about Track and AutoX tire brands - Page 20 - MY350Z.COM Forums

Great post of people who track their cars and testing different tires.

Do auto and/or tire manufacturers have any role in these manipulating these reviews though? My concern is that greasing some palms gets their tires rated better. Perhaps pure cynicism but sometimes that's how the world works.

I had 265F/285R Ventus V12s installed a couple weeks ago. I've noticed a slight shimmy in my steering wheel between about 60-80mph. I was chalking it up to the road surface but I just swapped to my winter tires and the shimmy is gone. I guess I'll get the tires rebalanced but I recall reading some threads about the Hankooks being lop-sided. Sigh...if rebalancing doesn't fix this, it's last cheapo tire I buy. If it wasn't for the shimmy, I'd give them pretty high marks so far.

*** Had them rebalanced at another installer and all four tires/wheels were 2 or more ounces off and the weights were in the completely wrong spots. Waiting a couple weeks for the weather to shape up here and then I'll see if that fixed the shimmy...but I can't see how it wouldn't. The first installer should be run out of the business.
wheee! likes this.

So, do I have to buy tires from Apple? Because their iPad work very well

I ordered my HK v12 today and i was just doing the search to see if i made a good choice. So far i think i am reassured that i have not made a bad decision going that route.

My tires will arrive at Discount-Tire in 3-4 business days and i'll put them on

Probably the best bang for your buck daily driver tire in terms of modest performance and wear, but by no means is it a high performance tire. Wore out a set and went to re-11's which I've been extremely happy with. Actually got more miles out of the re-11 as well. I have a set of rs3 on order because I wanted to be able to flip flop tires again.

So i've been driving the Hankook for a day or so now, and i gotta save i'm very pleased with the performance. I am not a crazy driver to go fast and take sharp corner but i do drive a good distance

The drive is a lot smoother than the stock tires (i may be biased cuz my stock tires were worn when i bought my Z at around 18k miles)
But regardless, i drive 50 miles round-trip just for work, and i had not felt any discomfort with them so far. They do not give any crazy feeling or do not urge me to give more gas, but they could be fun if i wanna go out of the line a bit

Like everyone said, i think they're fun tires if you do drive some good distance like i do, and for the value, you cannot go wrong with them
