How does a staggered layout prevent a tire from getting patched? Sounds like BS to me. I can understand not rotating front/rear, but patching has nothing to do with it

How does a staggered layout prevent a tire from getting patched? Sounds like BS to me. I can understand not rotating front/rear, but patching has nothing to do with it unless the damage is near the shoulder/sidewall.
