Nail ruined my tire. Is mixing a new tire with the old ones ok?

Sucks. Nail ruined the side wall on my rear right tire. Got the car new in August of last year and it has about 4500 miles on it so the tread on the other tires is pretty good. Is it ok to run a new tire on the same axle as the old tire? Will it cause alignment issues or drive train damage? Should I just get to new rears? Meh..This sucks.

You should be fine, just buy the same brand/size as your other rear tire...if money permits and your really worried about it you can buy two new rears but its not mandatory

Agreed. Seems fine. Got the new tire put on today at the dealership for $200 (nice discount!). Drives fine. There's about a 1 mm difference in tread measured at the center of the tire.

Hah! Mother f** at least I know I'm not alone, this just happened to me yesterday! Ended up going with a hankook ventus v12 evo for $200 mounted and balanced, hated to see the old tire go since I only had 7k on it but I don't want the same tires once they're done anyway, plus no one for MILES including my dealer had it in stock, special order up to 5 days lol. Hankooks had double the tread wear at half the price so hopefully it works out till I need a new set. Good luck!

Honestly, it depends how worn it is. If the non-punctured one is close, and you have the funds, replace both, and keep the salvageable one as a spare.

Didn't seem worth it, I thought about that though. The screw wasn't too thick but from the research I did online it's best not to try and patch up sidewall punctures... I'm sure there's options for remedies I saw truckers use fiberous rubber patches and cook the tire to seal it but that sounds costly and I wouldn't want to risk a blowout on my pretty rays wheels.
