Al Tomlinson (I'm not sure his forum screen name but he's in here!) actually found that 17 x10.5 with 6.5 offset will fit over our Akebonos! He has MT 305/45/17s for the tires. I'm actually in the process of ordering some, just need to figure out if 315/35/17 hoosiers will fit. I've always wanted Hoosier tires and I don't think they come in 305/45

My 295 are 2.35% shorter than stock gearing and with how much more grip the Hoosiers afford, the extra gearing is pretty needed. I can't imagine going to anything shorter. The 315 or 295 in a 17 are 3.5% and 5.77% shorter. If you run a 295/315 stagger in 19s you're looking at 1872 vs 1542 before "membership" discounts. So that's 330/set difference so at two sets per year and throwing in comparable 17" wheels it's about 3 years to break even. The question part for me is how will performance be impacted by the shorter gearing and higher tire pressure? Does it justify the money saved? If I were strictly comparing 295 vs 295 the 212$/set and 5 years to break even just wouldn't be worth it. If you're burning 10 sets of tires per year though, my estimations would be extremely off base .Sidenote, if you plan to run wets, you're going to 18s or 17s for sure, and most likely in a 275 square setup, in which case it's a 96$/set difference and that's extremely hard to justify scrounging around for a 17 that might fit.
