Default Help me choose between 19s and 20s

I know you thought... not another one of these threads... but then clicked anyway hoping it was something different. Hopefully it is different enough, but fair warning, it's mostly just the same.

So, along with several other folks I am going widebody on my 370. However, unlike the bagged super low crowd (who I might add have some badass cars), mine will be static suspension, wont' be super low, and will still hit the track a couple of times a year and probably some autoX 3-4 times a year.

I also have a sick obsession with wide rubber and with a wheelwell filled with wheel and tire. So I like my tires wide and tall.

With that in mind I am stuck between the following setups for this car.
305/35r19 on a 19x11 Front
345/30r19 on a 19x12.5 rear

vs

285/30r20 on 20x10 Front
335/35r20 on 20x12 Rear

The 19" setup runs a little taller at about 27.4" front and 27.1" rear diameter. Which after my last setup, I know will fill the wheel wells very well. It is also somewhat wider, particularly in the front. Plus bragging rights for having a 300series front tire. This also should achieve more of a performance look, with the taller sidewall. Also a savings in unprung weight/rotational mass for the wheel (offset to some degree by the wider tire in front).

The 20" setup would have smaller sidewalls, putting the focus more directly on the wheels I am about to shell out major $$ on. Like you probably gathered from looking at my tire/wheel sizes, I am not looking to stretch a tire. However, I think the 20" would give a more modern look with the smaller sidewalls and focus on the wheels.

I know ultimately it is my decision and my car, but I just wanted to get thoughts from the forum.

I think you answered your own question. You want more sidewall therefore you want 19s.

I would choose the 20s if it were me.

i looked around at some sizing options for 20's wider than a 295. Very few options, and they all cost $$$. Michelin PSS or better, basically, and thats it.

Really, I think the best way to go is 20's for street, with a backup set of 18s for track seems ideal. HUGE selection of sizes and types of tires in 18, cheaper, plus 18 inch wheels are also cheaper.

If you're hardcore about the track you'll want fresh tires and alignment anyways, i figure.

You know what I'm running. Planning on going bigger in the front, without a wide body.

Rusty that was my craziest aha moment as I started investigating setups for wheels and tires. You can pretty much get as much rubber as you can reasonably buy under the fenders of the stock bodied 370z. I always loved the curves of the car, but didn't truly realize that our wheelwells are like infinite caverns from factory. Only upside to the widebody is being able to run that size and not have to be counting millimeters of suspension clearance, but 99% just aesthetics.

Optionzero, you might be a real good point there. it's something i'd originally thought about before I started on the widebody venture. It actually got me thinking down a more dangerous path though. It got me thinking that maybe I just need a dedicated track car.

Cooltoy, good catch. However, the part I may not have mentioned is that despite my love of big rubber, that in terms of the aesthetic balance, I am 99% 20"s will look better, complimenting the widebody look. Plus my current setup are 20" and once you cross the line it is hard to go back.

Thanks for the points to ponder. I will be making a decision by next week. I will keep you posted.

Don't get me wrong. I love wide bodies. But have not seen one on the Z that I like yet.

I am looking to do the moonbeam kit. This car in particular is my inspiration.

I was of a similar opinion regarding widebody kits, but a) i started loving them more and more b) my car took some rear fender damage, and it is an ideal time to cut them.

With the added topic of being able to fit huge rubber under standard fenders, it's a questionable choice when it comes to performance, so it's all aesthetics, but nonetheless I am doing it.

Aimgain is probably the best of the bad IMO, if it were to be molded in. Moonbeam is not bad ether but please, no bolt holes.

This is the best execution of a widebody I have seen. Once again IMO.

I love this forum... Never know where a thread will wind up.

That white widebody is sick. Thy only widened the front right? Or am I missing something?
