Here is something interesting concerning my Ecutek Tune performed by Dynotronics.

1. Last week my check engine light came on. I was throwing a P1421 per my OBDII reader.

2. Two weeks prior to this code, my car was running a little rough especially at start up. Normal Cold Start procedure RPM's would go to 1.5K, hover and then gradually come back down. It was going all the way to 2.3K, hover, sound rough and then very, very slowly come back down. Again on cold starts.

3. After engine was warm, I noticed idle RPM's a little higher than the normal .6K idle. My car was idling between .7 and .8K. As anyone would know, this is quite noticeable.

4. After engine was warm, I then noticed the RPM's jump to nearly 1.2K when shifting to Neutral......every time. I would feel the car slightly jerk when placing the car back in Drive.

5. I took my car to the dealership. My car is still under Nissan warranty as I purchased it as "Certified Used". I was a little concerned my warranty would be Void if they detected the Ecutek tune?

6. They didn't say anything one way or the other and confirmed it was in fact throwing a P1421. They then advised an NTB10-149 was issued for ECM update regarding the Cold Start Control. Apparently, this was an issue with both 2009 and 2010 models.

7. They then updated the ECM per Bulletin, cleared codes. Check engine light is now off.

There is no question the reflash of the ECM has cleared the Dynotronics tune.

Prior to taking the car to the dealership, I contacted Joe at Dynotronics to get his take. He advised this code had nothing to do with the tune.

I then contacted Joe after the dealership reflash. He advised to reflash the ECM with the latest file he sent me which was back in July 2014.

I have to be honest, given Scionide's experience along with my own, I am a little concerned to do this.

I am thinking about ditching the Ecutek, taking my loss like a man, and go with UpRev who is proven.

Appreciate your comments.

If you have some way to backup and restore the factory ROM image, I'd say give it a try. If the tuned ROM image doesn't work, go back to the factory image. If you can't restore back to the saved factory image, I'd leave it alone.

I don't have any experience with tuning but, going by what I've read on this site, UpRev is the way to go. YMMV

If you've already invested the $ and had no other issues, you might was well stick with ECUtek.

If you had issues, whether or not this one was just a fluke, then I'd lump the cost and switch to uprev.

Tiger, do you have your own cable? Although you have an auto, your issue sounds veryy similar to mine.

Give Ecutek (specifically Mervyn) an email. He should be able to take care of your problem pretty quickly since I've done all the datalogs trying to isolate the issue already, and it's been resolved for me.

I vote we change the name of this thread to "ECUTek is Proud to Not Announce Anything"

chknhawk 10-16-2014 08:47 PM

I guess that's the thing I don't really understand. Aside from the actual tuned Rom you get it's basically the software that let's you adjust the tune (or let's the tech adjust the tune) so if someone doesn't know how to tune the vehicle in the first place then the cable you get whether ecu tech or uprev doesn't really matter. They both do the same thing which is talk to the ecu and tell it what to do when making adjustments. I'm no tuner at all but I am a computer guy and I understand electronics. A box is a box is a box. I know 350z are a different animal but I've seen guys take them to dyno and get minor tunes. Don't know if they just used a generic cable or what. Guessing the had one that plugs into the ecu or obd port. Anyone ever think of maybe calling haltech or someone like that to see if they could figure it out? If you have the cable and the software then it should just be up to a seasoned tuner to figure it out from there. Just my 2 bits...

Yes, I do have the cable.

I will send Mervyn an email. Should I reference your Screen Name here? Please feel free to PM me with any additional information I should make Mervyn aware of.

BTW, did Mervyn share any information regarding the new advanced features? They announced this on their FB page a couple of months ago and would appear still in testing phase? Not to mention the features appear to be "lack luster" and nothing like they were originally claiming. I am starting to lose my patience with Ecutek. All these promises and really nothing to show for it..........only idle issues that should not happen.

Where are you at with this whole thing?

scionide 10-17-2014 11:17 AM

Oh mention Max, I don't know if they even read this forum..haha.

Regarding features I just got told it's being worked on..and it's taking them longer than expected. Supposedly it's under beta testing and was released to certain tuners, no idea which ones.

At the moment my issue is resolved completely, car runs quite well so I'm just waiting for the advanced features.

Just recently got a 2014 touring with sport package and I am considering going with ecutek when they come out with the new features, but I honestly dont know what tuner to pick. I just have exhaust and intake right now. I need a remote tune because no tuners are near me. But I read through these posts and it seems in some cases people have had to go right to ecutek to get things fixed, so I have no idea which tuner to pick, and wish I could just go to ecutek directly. Since you can't do that, can someone suggest the best tuner to work with a remote tune? I would like to hear experiences both good and bad so I can pick one. PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting your feedback publicly. Also I want to go FI/SC at some point, and was hoping to go remote tune at that point too, but maybe I just need to drive 4 hours at that point to get the tune. Folks opinions and thoughts appreciated.

You must not have read the whole thread. Go with Uprev. Period.

Lol...I did...I just really want the ecutek features...if the ever come out. I may go upRev in the end, but let's just say theoretically if they come out with the features.

In all seroisness, Is there anyone that went ecutek think it was a good idea? Does everyone really hate the product and there is no reason to consider it? Not a single person is happy with the product?

SouthArk370Z 10-17-2014 12:45 PM

This thread was started a year and a half ago. Still just vaporware. I'm not sure how this site ranks among 370Z-related sites as far as size and "importance" but there appears to be quite a few active members that are interested in their product and would actually buy it if it existed. No one at Ecutek has chimed in to let folks know what is going on.

OP last posted 07-29-2014, 10:48 PM. I still haven't figured out his relationship with Ecutek (other than using their software to tune cars) or why he (and not someone from Ecutek) would post the announcement.

I checked Ecutek's web site a few weeks ago and was unable to locate info on the promised update. But maybe I didn't look in the right place.

The whole thing sounds dubious to me. YMMV

scionide 10-17-2014 02:11 PM

Sadly by the time the features might get released..I may not even be in this car anymore lol. @cuseZ if you need a tune right now, go uprev as it is the more complete package at the moment. If you can wait maybe give it a few more months for Ecutek to finally come out with something..

This is what Ecutek showed me along with telling me it's under beta testing with "certain dealers." That's all I know at the moment.

*Edit* My picture link seems to be broken..but its simply a photo of the table of contents showing all the features etc. for the beta testers. Custom traction control, oil temp display on the gauges, map switch etc.

visconti 10-17-2014 02:32 PM

It's been a while since I've been activate on this forum, - sorry about that.

I've been busy working on other things while I waited for something good enough to come back to you with.

With that all being said I understand the why some of your would be upset or would think EcuTek or myself has lost interest.

As of right now all the features that I've talked about on here are done. Software is on my laptop. If anyone with a manual car in the tri-state area wants to spend a little time with me I'll make it worth your while.

I'll also be in Vegas for Sema next month, anyone in the Vegas area is welcome to meet up with me and have a look at the new software.

Additionally EcuTek is having a party for dealers and customers, you more than welcome to come to that as well..

Let me know

Thanks

John
