Everyone is scared of the maintenance of clutch type LSDs but I don't know anyone who's had to service an OSG one yet. The same cannot be said for carbonetic and nismo, however.
No im not on a OS Giken, but ive driven on several in FWD, AWD, and RWD cars. Im actually on a Cusco Type RS, but mine is custom tuned. Im pushing the OS since its prolly the least maintenance from the get go. The Cusco is setup too tight for proper road course grip, but its easy to open and tune and even comes with instructions on how to, but most people here dont want to tune there diffs. OS giken's cannot be tuned privately, only by sending to OS. FYI ive had my Cusco for over a year now, lots of DD and track days and still no issues, just changing fluid.

Clint do you run the rs-spec f ? Just quicly looked at the cusco site and the spec f looked to be kinda road course specific. Do you also have to modify stub shafts or any other stock parts?

when you had yours tuned what torque were finally set at?

alot of questions I know just really interested in this LSD.

thanks

my car is still full interior and my exhaust isnt that loud, its a very subtle diff whine. i dont mind and i still street drive the car often.

i have the Type RS, i dont see a "spec F". mine is capable of 1.5 or 2 way if that clears up anything.

with the cusco diff no sub axle modding or replacing needs to happen, my OE VLSD stubs work with the LSD as is.

i have my RS set at 1.5 way, 80% lock, with 6 out of 12 ramp up springs in place for a smooth and progressive lock engagement. Also my Clutches are WPC treated for smoother operation and less heat.

Just found this because of new interest...

Looks like these guys tuned at 6 spring and 80 % as well. He mentions a treatment for the clut h pack that provides more life and smoother operation. I think the type F that I mentioned is similar as the discs are polished from the factory maybe a new option.

Thanks for the info Clint.

newtonova822 is on a distinguished road
Default which one

Guys,

Great discussion have a LS factory "14" DD 370 as My real DD is a Suzuki.

So it gets me groceries and thru the snow for a while...

Would like to get really a very track focused car.
I think what I heard are VLSD is a bit more track focused
than the Quaffe

Suggestion on that?
I know clutces well from the bikes and there is a great difference in feel.
I can deal with some querkiness on the streat in traffic?? god knows I already do, but when the road opens up...
I don't want to give up the flying.

Cheers,
jb

Well it's a good article that I guess you are all over.

Anyone that wants a good step by step with pics type: MotoIQ Cusco LSD 370z should be the first site that shows.

Im not sure if you can really make a call as to this treatment being all that the article says, having had it from the start but, any impressions on it being smooth and being able to run longer and harder?

If you don't mind answering how much extra was the WPC treated discs?

And the maint is not all that hard at all once you get it set where you want it. Oil changes but that is all of a 15-20 min job just do it every third oil change or 10,000 mi after break in.

even though i didnt try my LSD before and after WPC, i have tried other LSDs, and i know that WPC works for not only Differentials, but also engine parts. its only $200 to get the clutches treated and its a few day turn around. it totally worth it. look up stuff on WPC on youtube and google. it works.

Clintfocus and I had discussed the WPC coating that he had done on his LSD. The coating provides smoother operation and wear resistance. This is a link to the Cusco Manual and at the bottom, page 14 I think, the Type-F is mentioned. Along the same lines as WPC coating except it is a machine polished surface. I just wanted to add this to the discussion:
