Yes, you can sit there as long as you want after the light goes green. It will add time to your reaction time but your 1/4 mile timing doesn't start until your car moves forward.

Maybe next year when GLD is open we can meet up. I went on 11-9 and it was fun.

I got my car on 7-29 and went to GLD on 9-2,10-6,10-19,11-3. I only saw another Z there once and it was a highly modified 84 turbo from Chicago that ran 13.0@115. So now it will be a few winter months without the Z to decide on Motordyne ART test pipes and back to the strip, or maybe just leave it alone and try a road course track day. USAir in Shawano might be a good track to start out on.

Very True....Reaction time only matters if you are racing an opponent and want to be the first across the 1/4 mile....However IMO Drag Racing is really all about racing and beating yourself to achieve your best time......

If u feel urself slipping just barely let off for a millisecond and get back on it. By the 4th run I was doing great. Thnx everyone for the advise
What tire pressure were you at - Did you get any wheel hop with the Michelins ???

When i was at the strip, i launched at 3500rpms and the car had so much grip it bogged down and bucked. So the next time i launched at 5000 rpms and it hooked up nice a took off. Drag strips have rubber laid down from all the burnouts so there is a huge amount of grip compared to the street

I feel your pain...

Summer tires on the Z don't work well at the dragstrip.
Wheel hop is definitely not a good thing.

The best launch is a combination of factors - Tires, Temps, Track Condition ...
Finding the right balance takes a little practice.

A quick but not too abrupt coming off the clutch without feathering it along with an equally smoothed transition on the throttle without wheel spin or bogging is the goal to shoot for.

With street tires you can't expect too much better than about a 2.0 60' time.

You can improve your launch and 2nd gear with drag radials - Mickey Thompson makes a 305 that will fit the stock 19" wheels.
They will stop the hop as well...
They are made of softer compounds and have a softer side wall.
Find another set of 19" Z wheels and put them on when you want to go to the drag strip.

What was your trap speed ???

Default How to run 1/4 mile, First time

Proper suspension set up will help eliminate wheel hop. Better bushings etc, anything that prevents your toe angle changing during acceleration. Better tires may eliminate hop, as a side affect, but if u increase power (go FI or something) wheel hop will come back unless your suspension is right. I haven't taken my Z to the 1/4, not sure if I will, but most of my recent and upcoming mods are diff, diff bushings, camber and traction arms and new bushings. These will all help u put more usable power to the ground. Now talking specifically for the 1/4, getting the best tires are a must as well.
