Not everyone is a baller like you, Raul. I had a blast at zdayz a few years ago. Haven't made it back since unfortunately. Road course just isn't in my budget right now. But soon, hopefully.

Drag racing is cheaper to do, less maintenance, and less risk crashing your car. The bonus is that you get to learn how to extract every last ounce of (straight line) speed out of your car. I would hate to have a full bolt on Z and lose to a stock Z because of driver issues.

Gary and i believe andrew are certified instructors and I can not wait for them to teach me... its gonna be an awesome weekend...

As for the drag strip I am going tonight but its like 95 degrees and humid... My expectations are low.. I almost dont want to use my MT radials because I feel like I am just gonna waste them lol.

Its my bday gift to myself , lol

Haha, that's how I felt last time I went. I didn't warm up the drag radials because I didn't want to waste them on NA power.

Drag racing is cheap (until you break something).

b1adesofcha0s 06-08-2011 02:09 PM

I definitely had a lot more fun driving around some twisty roads than I did at the drag strip. It is fun to hit triple digit speeds legally and worry free, it is a lot more exciting (to me at least) to do some spirited driving on some twisty roads.

I definitely want to do some driving on an actual road course, but my car won't be track ready for a while.

If a damn track day wasnt 300$$ ...i would go all the time

And didn't require an oil cooler. Also, for me at least, they are a lot further away. There are 2 road courses in my region, Summit Point Raceway which is a 3 hr drive and VIR which is a 6 hr drive. The dragstrip is only 15 mins away.

I would go to track days but i do not know how to drive on a race track.
Its not i me as i never drive fast except on the drag strip.
The Z admits not to being able to drive his 370 into corners and pass guys /
Its just not me.
I bought my car because i like it and it looks good and drives great.

went 12.92@108.97 with 1.97 60 in a HORRENDOUS day for 1/4 mile track..

will post slip tomorrow.. 2650 DA 94 degrees and 41 percent humidity...

went with a handful of Zs others didn't go faster than 13.8@102 and yea some were the almighty Auto transmission form of the 370z.. so I did well with what I was dealt especially with the garbage 60 foot I got, lol

jnaut 06-09-2011 06:58 AM

Chuck that mph is awesome. In winter ur coming up on a 110 trap

tranceformer 06-09-2011 07:32 AM

Was that on drag radials or street tires?

I will update the thread later tonight.

Nice. I think I may be heading out to the drag strip again sometime in the next few weeks.

SharpByCoop 07-01-2011 09:23 PM

Night at the track....

2008 Infiniti G37 Sport coupe
GTM Stage II twin turbo kit / GTM Tune (with rev limits raised)
GTM 2.5" full exhaust
5AT auto trans w/TransGo shift kit
'Bulletproof' trans rebuild and torque converter by Level 10 in NJ
All installation and advice/direction provided by JimmyK at The Shop in Norwalk, CT
BF Goodrich drag radials with Enkei RPF1 rims (18" F/R)

I got in (5) runs: 11.90, 11.72, aborted pass (Overreving caused limp), 11.75, and 11.77.

I had guys coming down from the stands to check out the fast Infiniti. Said it was the smoothest fast car on the track. As well as the best looking. :)

I'm about done with the track for now. I'm driving it efficiently, and I can't see much more improvement unless I push the boost up. And with stock pistons, I am already REALLY at the edge right now. That would be costly.

Very few Infiniti's in the elevens, and fewer yet with an auto? None that I have seen.

Thanks for watching.

Coop

What's the best 1/4 time for an NA 370? Mods?

Check the other 1/4 mile thread. It has a list of top times on the first page. Fastest NA time was 12.24 by jnaut.

Nice man. Throw some slicks on and you could see a low 11 second run.

A 13.4 @ 105 mph when it was like 100 degrees outside. Left early and didn't run when it got cooler at night. It was still better than 2 Camaro SS's that were there.

Oh ok I thought I read Drag radials. In that case with a few more passes you should be able to get at least a low 1.7 or high 1.6 60' on your slicks. I know I couldnt get better than a 1.8 on my drag radials then I switched to slicks and pulled a 1.6 and knocked .5 tenths off of my time. Plus your making almost 200 HP more than me so it should be easy for you.

SharpByCoop 08-11-2011 06:05 AM

^^^ Not so. I'll bet you have a manual transmission and clutch, where you can launch as hard as you want.

If you watched my vids closely I simply CAN'T leave harder. The auto and torque converter regulates the launch. Full-out racing slicks would help IF I still had traction problems, which I don't.

A higher stall speed would reduce 60' time, and at that point it may go beyond the needs of the BF Goodrich D/R, but I've already went one step further than stock.

I'm going to go back soon. We are going to install a new exhaust and I'd like to retest in cooler weather. Possibly a new tune.

Thanks!

Coop

Z eliminator 08-11-2011 07:25 AM

What rpm can you hold it befoe you launch. I can hold mine around 1900rpm before the tire stgart to move on the line and i cut 1.85 60 ft times.

ajcool2 08-11-2011 03:44 PM

Im an auto just like you. My stall is set to 3200 and stock it was 2200. I've run on drag radials, street tires and Slicks. On drag radials my best 60' was a low 1.8, on street tires a high 1.8 and on slicks 1.64. I've been racing autos for a while just figured I'd give you a few tips. Im not sure where your turbo spools at so that may play a part in it too. I'd estimate when I launch Im around 350tq or so. Of course a higher stall would help your 60's it just seems like you should be able to get better ones with your HP level. I run nitrous btw.

b1adesofcha0s 08-11-2011 05:23 PM

Just to clarify something, for autos when you lauch, you put your foot on the brake and then push the gas until you get up to whatever rpm you want to launch at. After that you let go of the brake and floor it, correct? This is what I've been doing the whole time, but the guy at Capitol Raceway told me I can't spin my tires at the line. I got kind of confused by that so I thought I might have been trying to launch too hard.
