IDK what the heck happened on that second incident there.
Seems like very other car on the track is a Mustang, there's the problem!

They were really strong last year. Still looking good this year but Grand Am has been doing a pretty good job of keeping the competition close. Get too far ahead and they'll reel you back in.

From some talk I heard at the Daytona race, you'll actually hurt yourself if you're too good. Normally the added weight or reduced RPM's to "equalize" the field will take you out of contention for at least a race or two.

Definitely. I'm sure they'll trim the 911s back a bit.

I would think they will consider Barber a "wash" becuase of the terrible sportmanship and carnage. As we were leaving the race....and going to the car the announcers came on and said they were working lap 45....and 29 of them had been yellow flag laps...and it was an emabaresment.
How Grand am looks at it is qualifying times...then they take each makes fastest race lap...10 lap average...2o lap average...and 30 lap race average.
This is one part of the Z esp at Barber we thought would be in our favor for a green flag lap.
While we may not have top 10 single fast lap...our car because of the weight and setup...may not fall off as much during a full stint.
The showed last year when we ran the 128's....our car only fell off 1 second on the 20 lap average...and other cars fell off 1.5 - 2 seconds. We came away p2 in last years Barber ST race.
The Porsche 3.8 is making good power for sure...and good power to the wheels ...and has only 50 more lbs than us. I know for sure...the old non direct injection 3.8s were about 320 to the wheels stock....and the new engines are up a lot higher than that.
Im thinking they are making 360ish to the wheels at least.
I bet after Homestead there will be another rules package update....that is if everyone in GS drives better.

They'll never let any one make get too far out ahead so at least we can always count on a great show assuming everyone behaves themselves. The races usually come down to the wire. Great fun to watch.

Dwnshift, sorry for the misfortune. I had a great time the whole weekend, and was completely crushed when you got forced off the track. I thought it was the Aston Martin that hit you, after being hit by a Camaro, as I could see from my vantage point. I was sitting on the grass hill on turn 2. We look forward to keeping up with your season. Cheers

While I always want to get into the Grand Am racing, it's downright painful as a spectator to watch the majority of each race (and some finishes) run under caution. Either there are too many cars on track or the drivers need to stop treating these events like bumper cars. True racing fans hate crashes...it's not Nascar where all the good 'ol boys go to see a big pileup!

Agreed...however a good tail slide exiting a corner can be exciting to watch when two or three cars are pushing hard for a position.

Hmmm I have always been a true race fan and bumping in my opinion has always been part of road racing in production car classes. I'm tired of sissies who say contact is bad. Crashes are bad but contact happens when you are pushing hard in a big field. It's always been part of racing and has never been reserved just to stock cars. If contact wasn't part of the game why do grand am cars have big push structures built into front and rear? Or at least the smart teams build these into their cars. Lol!

Grand Am is actually pretty calm compared to most similar series in other parts of the world.

Nothing wrong with clean contact. Just don't flat out wreck a guy on purpose. And if you do decide to "help" a slower car out of the groove, you better make sure you really are faster or else you should expect the same treatment later on.

Hey now, the last 400 miles of the Texas race were run under green! NASCAR Cup series guys crash a lot less than the Grand Am folks!

For what its worth a "true" racing fan likes racing. Those F1 snob types are not "true" racing fans.

That isn't that surprising since all they do is make left turns.

Road race guys like to give NASCAR a bunch of crap but 99% of the road racers that come over to try fail miserably. Racing at the Cup level is one of the toughest disciplines in the business! I know most of it is in jest, but c'mon!
