Oh, my bad. He does infact has a sport model. Didnt even see that. The importance of track prep is rather evident then I must say.

I can't wait to pick up my car & drag race it just once before snows

Monday the banks are closed, so I'll pick it up Tues/Wed. Found a 2012 with ONLY 1,100 miles, Base automatic. It's a nice car that I will replace in a year or two. By then I'll know more about the next Z. At my age, 60K for a Camaro or Mustang is not for me. I think the 580 h.p.zL 1 & the new Mustang do 12 flat in the 1/4 mile. Stock of course. I think I'll be able to do mid 12's with a couple of mods + lsd & good tires.

Got a good deal considering it has 1,100 miles. I'll try to go to the track before they close. Will post my results. First I got to learn paddle shifting :)

Posting cause I'm excited & can't wait to test it. :stirthepot:

2012 Base Sport 7AT. Only mod is an $800 ExoticSpeed cat back exhaust. This time I tried weight reduction. Removed the spare wheel and tire, jack and tools, child seat anchor bracket, front and rear tow hooks, and rear floor mat. That added up to 46.8 lbs. I now weigh 170 as I also put myself on a 5 day diet and lost 3 lbs. Both previous times I went with more than 3/4 tank of gas, this time I had less than 1/4 tank. Did a 13.066@108.23 and a 13.078@109.32 on a 54 degree day. I drove a 2014 Corvette on Friday that felt alot faster than my car. But in the November issue of Car & Driver it said the new Vette does the 1/4 in 12.5@116 so my Z is only a half second slower for half the price.

Yo. Your R/T on the first slip to the left is hella good. I wish I could get my foot on the pedal that quick. Not to mention the 1/4. I thought my 13.5x was good. I didn't think this thing was capable of 13 and change on a stock setup with just a cat back. Awesome stuff.

Just place your foot on the pedal before the yellow lights start going down :)

What "couple of mods" do you think are gonna get you 12.50s?

Mine ran 13.0 at 105 bone stock down to the tires. With some good rubber it's 12.80s all day long.

NBZ34 11-10-2013 07:42 PM

You must be running at or near sea level to be getting 13.0x times bone stock with perfect barometric conditions

I think test pipes/tune to match the change from test pipes & LSD w gears.

I think that should do it. Then again I won't have the advantage of driving a manual trans. I'll be just a regular guy that floors the gas pedal.

I guess I'll find out soon :)

andre12031948 11-10-2013 07:46 PM

I'll need some good street/drag radials

I'll need 1.7's-1.8's 60 foot.

Z eliminator 11-10-2013 07:58 PM

I think you did more than just a few mods:) Without me doing the driving, I'm really not sure what the car will do. Just bored & hope I do well. It's just a DD for me. I need a reliable nice car for a year or two. Then again, we'll see. I do understand drag racing.

andre12031948 11-10-2013 08:30 PM

It's a 2012 with only 1k mileage

Just bumped into it. It's like new & the price was right. Done deal, just need the bank to open & I'll pay the rest off. I carry a few grand on me as gas money & sometimes :)

I think the DA was 1800 - 2000. It was Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY. The slip is posted in this thread somewhere, but the 60' was a crummy 2.1x. I got the launch down pretty good but the shift from 1-2 it'd fish tail costing me time. Going from auto mode to manual mode shaved 2/10ths by the way. With good tires and a 1.7 - 1.8 60' it's well in to the 12s.

I drive a 600RWHP manual trans 2009 Challenger at the track a lot and run 10.90s thus far with it so driver finesse is a lot of it. I'm one of only 3 manual trans Challengers in the 10s that we know of.

A 10.90 w a manual. Nice to meet a true drag racer. I also met Jason your # one bolt on guy in Florida. I was there when he did that 12.2 ......

He might not be into drag racing today. That seems to be my future as well :(

LOL, well all the auto guys make fun of us stick drivers. We're the hard headed ones that tear up more stuff on those cars than you can shake a stick at LOL

It's all fine with me. I drive that Challenger to work and all over the place and spend a lot more time on the street with it where rowing gears is a lot more fun than an auto. If it had a GOOD auto trans in it like the Z, I'd have an auto though as the autos run right at .5 faster in ET at the same power levels as us stick guys. They are easier on drive train parts as well. A lot of the original stick drivers have actually done auto conversions.

Here's one of my runs:
