We are dead even until the last 300 ft which is where I pulled him 3 car lengths. He hooks up better than I do which is no suprize since he's running slicks.

Thanks for the Calculator! I put in the figures and if that race was at Sea Level it would be 13.32 seconds @ 111 mph which was what I would expect. My car is also not tuned and that would improve it even more.

About my track time, Give me a break, it was the first time I ever drag raced my car.

Idk if you know him, but there is no such thing as a "3/4 race cam" . this joker is bs's you.

Just an FYI:

What's a 3/4 Race Cam?
In the early 1950's the most popular original camshaft designers were the legendary Ed Winfield, the father of hotrodding, and Cliff Collins of Harman-Collins. If you look a Huntington's 1951 book you will find the specs for their cams listed. We've also listed some of their cams on our Flathead Performance Cams page. There were lots of cam grinders that copied Winfield and Harman-Collins cams, but these two were the designers and innovators in the early days. It was popular to refer to cams as a 1/2 Race or Semi grind and a Full Race grind. Later, there was a call for an intermediate grind between these two. To fill this demand, Ed Winfield took the intake lobe from his full race cam and the exhaust lobe from his semi cam and called it a 3/4 Race cam (see Flathead Performance Cams). It was literally half way between a full race and 1/2 race cam. Since that time, 3/4 Race has become a generic term for a high performance street cam, i.e. something less than a race cam.

Granted, its an old outdated dated term in relation to our Zs but I find myself using it to generally describe a hotter than stock cam. I really dont know what cam Pat has in his Stang but it has a pretty mean, lumpy idle.

BTW, Thumbs up for the Monterey Blue Z! I have only seen 1 other MB Z in the Denver Metro area rolling this color. I get tons of compliments on the color and 4 people have actually asked me for the paint code.

Umm, im glad I dont live in Denver , CO ....

haha

I am also angry that one trip to the track with radials and something broke... my car wont go into gear, but I still have full pedal movement... clutch is stuck enganged.. just put fidanza flywheel in last week and made one trip to track... awesome!!!!

you must pay to play I guess... Im guessing bad throw out bearing??? May buy the upgraded CSC if they do not cover it... fingers crossed for warranty though, I have a great relationship with my Nissan service department... but with a going to the track and in my case the fidanza flywheel be aware you could break things.. as me and jnaut have broken some ish just NA .... ugh , I am still on stock clutch... debating upgrading that now but I can not continue to dump money into her when I have other things to worry about in my life

June 25 the Z is going to the track. Hopefully with more toys on the car if they ever get dilivered to my house in time.

Z

2fast4thelaw 06-15-2011 09:00 AM

Very True!, but I like to shift my Z. It just wouldnt be the same experience to just have to mash the pedal and go. BTW ZEliminator - I want some feed back on that GTM Stage 2 Supercharger you are buying. Thats what my Z needs up here in this high altitude. The Stage 1 kit just wasnt going to do much for me up here.

I have to say I learned a lot up at Bandimere last weekend. I saw a brand new stock 5.0 Mustang Convertable pull a 13.8 @ 105mph which shocked me! Ford did something right for a change. What really suprized me was a 2005 350Z with an STS turbo only pull 15.6 @ 87 mph! At first I thought he botched the run which I did a couple of times myself but after 2 more runs he was +/- a couple of 10ths from that time.

chuck, does the pedal feel normal? meaning pressure?

also i have a NIB clutchmaster clutch laying around the shop that i need to sell and yes that is the same one in my car that i beat the hell out of:tup:

2fast4thelaw 06-15-2011 06:15 PM

Also the 7AT kind of scares me since I was reading about Shumby grenading his transmission after he supercharged his G37. Its just one less thing I have to worry about after I supercharge my Z.

Z the auto problems have to shown yet, as you cant launch it @ 5k rpm like we can. Yours is going to break esp in the higher gears. The nissan manual trans is a tank the clutch/hydrolics are garbage.

I should finally be getting my refund for my MAF sensors and partial tune on Friday. Then I can order the Stillen manifold next week and can finally work on getting my car 100%...THEN I can go to the drag strip...because the itch is killing me.

Still going to be stock for a while. Hopefully I'll have something by end of summer once I have all the internship money. Either HFC or used CBE if I can find a good deal.

Edit: Looks like it's going to rain this Friday :(

I don't know how you guys are pulling the numbers you arte posting but up here in Morrison Colorado in the Rockys I am not even close to your numbers.

My Z is mildly modded with Stillen CAT back, HFCs, and CA intake and my best time is 14.8 @ 93.11 mph and my best run was 14.9 @ 99.77 mph.

On my time slip I am car # 152 and the other car I am racing is a 94 Mustang GT that is heavily modified with Drag slicks and I am barely beating him.

The 5300ft elevation must be really robbing my ETA.

congrats! you made the list!

now go find another track that isn't 5300ft elevation! :p

no it is softer than it would usually be, but it still has full play and has not lost pressure, and my fluid is full....

the clutch is stuck engaged because i can not hear the flywheel chatter... nissan should be looking at it tomorrow... It is there because I have become close with one service advisor and he does the right thing by me and will take care of the situation hopefully with a warranty if possible and if not I will not be slammed with hours and he takes care of me on the labor rate a bit.

If it is not warrantied I will be getting a clutch as it would be open anyway, PM sent to you Jnaut... thanks

If i can find the invoice for the rim i will post it. I can not find it.
its a nisimo part # 18 x 4 rim.
it cost 326.00 CDN.
with the MT 18 x 6 tire and the rim you will save between 16 and 17 Lb's per tire from the 19 inch 245x 45x 19 inch tire.
Now add the Racing brake front rotor's (-9 lbs) and you will save 26 lbs or 50 to 52 lbs of the front of the car.
I just got the rear rotors and will have them on by tuesday night. (12 lbs of the back axil)
total. Car with me in it 3360.
I have to lose weight 209 lbs empty car = 3151

My car had a similar problem where it wouldnt go in to gear last week. Nissan replaced the entire transmission and deemed it a "complete transmission failure". kinda scary considering only 10K on the car...

I received today a call from Smithtown Nissan that they got approval for a new trans for my car. Happy. Why did I wait so long? I've always had 2nd. gear problems. From once/twice a night to ALL night (Ray/Jason:). Since I don't push my car or expect good times in the heat of summer, I decide to do some competion bracket type racing. I pick a comfortable time, & try to run it consistant. Just won a nice trophy at Import day at Island drag N.J. Second place:( couldn't get it into second gear in the final!!!!:bowrofl:
My second subject is that except for a performance shop on L.I. that brings several Z's, There are never any 350z/370z's at the track. NONE. I've never seen so many young people not having a desire to race/win :superghey:
